Zippy Brit: 1964 Sunbeam Alpine Series II Project

Here’s a neat find for British sports car fans: a 1964 Sunbeam Alpine Series II project, now listed here on Facebook Marketplace. This is a true estate garage discovery, and while details are limited, the seller notes it appears to be complete or close to it. For anyone who’s been hunting a restoration candidate, or just needs a solid base of parts, this Alpine could be the ticket.

The car is non-running and has been sitting for some time, but its overall presentation suggests it hasn’t been picked apart or stripped down. The seller even mentions that additional parts are scattered around the garage, and those will go along with the car if the buyer chooses to take them. For someone who knows these cars, that could make the difference between a straightforward project and a difficult hunt for hard-to-find trim and fittings.

The Series II Alpine, produced in the early 1960s, carried a more refined version of the earlier design, with its tidy roadster proportions, distinctive rear fins, and a reputation for being both stylish and approachable. While not as famous as its Tiger sibling, which packed a Ford V8, the Alpine has long been appreciated as a classic British roadster that’s easy to enjoy and rewarding to restore.

This particular example will need the usual attention a decades-old, non-running project requires: a complete mechanical inspection, fresh fuel system, electrical sorting, and likely significant cosmetic work. That said, it’s presented as a full project with a bill of sale only, so buyers will want to confirm their local title requirements before diving in.

These cars offer a unique driving experience once brought back to life. Lightweight and nimble, the Alpine was designed to take on cars like the MG and Triumph roadsters, and today it remains an affordable entry point into the world of vintage British convertibles.

If you’re searching for a garage project that could be transformed into a fun weekend driver, or you simply need a parts car to keep your other Alpine on the road, this 1964 Sunbeam Alpine Series II is worth a look.

Would you take this one on as a full restoration, or would you put it to work as a donor to save another classic?

Think a lot of the “zippy” rusted away on this one. A good look underneath will tell if it’s worth it or not.

Is this not an SIII? Door quarter-light windows and lower rear tail fins-

This is a S5, 1725cc and it’s no way worth any where near 3k. The VIN plate shows B395 Series 5.

$3k seems high but it looks complete and you could part out and easily get you money back. The good thing is these are easy to get running and fairly cheap to fix. If I had room I would offer $1500 cash and go from there. I don’t have room though, I have a 65 Alpine IV and a 65 Tiger. These cars are a blast to drive and simple to maintain.
