In 1999, Dodge sold more Durangos than in any other year for their continuous 25-year run that started in 1997. Unless they have a crankin’ year in 2022 or beyond, they’ll never match almost 190,000 in sales from that year. The seller has this ultra-rare 1999 Dodge Durango Shelby SP360 listed here on eBay in impossibly gorgeous Waipahu, Hawaii, so be sure to check out shipping costs if you’re not lucky enough to live in the 50th state. The current bid is $15,699 with the reserve not met. There is also a $32,000 buy-it-now price listed.
Even with 189,840 Durangos hitting the streets in 1999, the 1999 Dodge Durango Shelby SP360 only counted for 300 of those sales. Speaking of shipping, the UShip tab on the eBay auction listed a $2,732 price for me but I’m not sure what that includes. The seller mentions that they can take it to the port in Matson for your shipper to pick it up. They also mention that this is #41 out of 300 made.
As we all know, Carrol Shelby was into various business ventures. He was mainly a car guy, race car driver, entrepreneur, and general celebrity who seemed to have the Midas Touch when it came to putting his name on items for sale. Well, other than when he went into the deodorant market with “Pit Stop“. No, really. The Super Pursuit 360, or SP360, was only available in Viper Blue with a white stripe as seen here. It’s hard to argue with that combo.
One thing that is easy to argue with would be the photos. The seller didn’t pop for the extra fee in order to give bidders the option of enlarging the images, and as almost always, they’re a weird mix of horizontal, square, and yes, even vertical images. Sadly, there isn’t one single photo showing the dashboard at all other than this one showing the gauges and this one showing the a-pillar gauges. The back seat photo was taken while looking directly into the sun so it was almost pitch black which is why it looks pixelated here. This isn’t rocket science, people, I don’t know why online photos more often than not continue to disappoint. Even after all that, what tiny snippets of the interior that are shown, it looks as nice inside as it does outside.
The big deal with the Dakota Shelby SP360 is, of course, the engine. It came at a time when 360 horsepower was a lot but you can get that much and much more now in SUVs and a modern Minivan can have a similar 0-60 time. This is a Dodge 360 V8 with 360 horsepower, thanks to the Kenne Bell supercharger. This one runs great and the current owners have had it since 2002. Have any of you seen a Dodge Durango Shelby SP360?
I had a 84 Shelby Charger, My First New Car. Shelby should have been ashamed his name was on the POS. Had it two years and even with it being paid for the dealer wouldn’t trade it for a NEW 86 Dodge Pick Up
Well, your first mistake was buying two dodges. LOL
Well, i have to admit that it looks good, the whole package is well done
The stripes, the interior, the supercharged engine
And being canadian , i can certify that i have never seen one on the road or at the stealership
But my friends that work at a Chrysler garage , keep telling me that all the products are garbage and they dont drive dodge /chrysler
The good news is it has never been out of the third gear.
Fly in, drive home?
On a very, very long bridge from Hawaii to California.
What factory SUV has 360hp, nowadays??
This is like the Hellcat of the late 90s.
Brett, the Toyota Sequoia has 381 hp, the Ford Expedition and Nissan Armada have 400+, a Lexus LX has 409, the Lincoln Navigator has 440, and that’s not counting German SUVs. My Cayenne Turbo has 500 and that’s wimpy in 2022.
A base model R/T does haha full circle
Those headlights need to be thrown in a volcano.
Most volcanos would spit ’em back out! :-) :-)
It is cool and goofy at the same time.
