Ford demonstrated to the world that it was firmly back in the performance game when it released 4,993 examples of its 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra. It is a relatively rare car in a “big picture” sense, but this one raises the stakes as 1-of-327 ordered in this paint and trim combination. It presents extremely well as a genuine survivor, and the inherent desirability of these classics makes the interest it has generated unsurprising. The seller listed the Cobra here on eBay in Mansfield, Georgia. They set their BIN at $44,500 OBO, helping to explain why 117 people have added it to their Watch List.
The Fox-Body Mustang has been one of the recent stars of the classic market, with the 1993 SVT Cobra leading the charge. Our feature car is a genuine survivor with 75,000 miles showing on its odometer. Its Code UA Black paint looks extremely clean, with no evidence of fading or patchiness. A close inspection will almost certainly reveal a few minor chips and imperfections, but the overall appearance is comfortably acceptable if potential buyers view the car purely as a survivor. The panels are straight, and there is no evidence or mention of rust problems. The distinctive 17″ wheels provide a striking contrast to the dark paint shade, showing no signs of stains or deterioration. The aero additions that form part of the Cobra pack are in good order, and the glass is clear. The car will win points with some, courtesy of the first owner’s decision to order it with a sunroof.
The spoilers, skirts, and larger wheels were the most visible signs that the SVT Cobra was special, but we need to delve below the surface to understand what this car offered to potential buyers. The engine bay houses a 5.0-liter fuel-injected V8, hooked to a five-speed T-5 manual transmission. However, the good folks at SVT breathed heavily on the motor to unlock significant performance gains. The parts list is extensive and includes GT-40 cylinder heads, an upgraded camshaft, improvements to the intake, exhaust, fuel injectors, and a reprogrammed ECU. Ford quoted official power and torque figures of 230hp and 304 ft/lbs, which many believe to be a significant understatement. To place it into perspective, this car should cover the ¼-mile in 14.5 seconds on its way to a claimed top speed of 150mph. A regular GT places 205hp and 275 ft/lbs at the driver’s disposal, with performance figures blowing out to 15.4 and 137mph. That suggests that the Cobra’s engine delivered significantly more than the company indicated. Potential buyers should consider this Ford a turnkey classic that runs and drives perfectly. The prospect of flying in and driving home is a realistic expectation for the person who becomes its next owner.
The interior trim is what increases the rarity stakes with this Cobra. Ford produced 1,854 examples wearing Black exterior paint, with 1,079 buyers teaming that shade with Opal Gray leather trim. However, only 327 buyers selected Opal Gray cloth. Other paint color and trim combinations are rarer, but this is the rarest of the Black beauties. Its condition is also exceptional, with no evidence of wear or other problems. It appears to feature an upgraded stereo, but that is the only visible aftermarket addition. Life aboard one of these classics is undeniably comfortable, with this car featuring air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power lumbar support on the front seats, and a leather-wrapped tilt wheel.
This 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra appears to be a genuine survivor, and it is refreshing that the seller doesn’t make outrageous claims about its odometer reading. It appears to need nothing, while the paint and trim combination adds to its inherent desirability. The BIN figure is slightly above the market average, but it is probably justified. However, if the seller is willing to accept genuine and respectful offers, that could potentially knock a few dollars off the price. What do you feel would be a fair figure for this classic?
These were a very solid effort to close out the lengthy Fox Mustang production run. Over the past decade or so the market has really taken note; they have become collectible, and prices have increased dramatically. Even this not-low-mileage example will bring big bucks, partly because it looks to have had good care (I would have guessed lower mileage). I wonder how much higher prices might go.
Make mine one with the eye-catching teal paint.
This sure looks like its clean and has been treated respectively over its lifetime. I prefer cloth interiors myself. I remember Ford had some very comfortable seats in the Mustangs and Tbirds during that time with the adjustable lumbar supports, etc. And they were quick too. Black is a really hard color to keep without swirl marks etc, but this one sure looks good.
And the clean Mustangs keep on coming. Always thought the Fox Body cars were some of the best things Ford ever put out. Nice one here.
There were 5,000 1993 Cobra’s built in the final year.
These cars are NOT rare.
Still do not understand the value’s that have been placed on these 1993 Cobra Mustangs!
What’s rare ?
This car not being driven into the ground.
Hate to tell ya that’s not opal Grey that’s black cloth interior

Have 2013 Boss 302 in Grabber blue I’d sell. It’s 1 of 435 (lowest color production) 44k miles have all dealer extras, performance kit, car cover all came with car when new. 42k. It’s twice the car a fox is.
You hit the nail on the head – that’s my favorite Mustang in my favorite color for them.
Sorry that I’m not in the market for one, nice car!
