If you’re hunting for a Jeep from the final year of AMC ownership, this low-mileage example could be tempting. The seller points out that this 1986 model was effectively a swan song for the AMC brand, as Chrysler took over beginning in 1987. The Jeep CJ-7 has just 10,705 miles on the clock, making it one of the lowest mileage examples in existence. Find it here on eBay listed at no reserve with bidding over $16K at the moment.
The seller says the Jeep was purchased new by a father for his son; upon realizing it was a bit risky in the hands of a 16-year-old, it went to a friend’s house for storage. The son later reclaimed the Jeep and sold it. It is about as loaded as you can get, both in terms of comfort features and off-road equipment. The seller notes it “…has the much desired Dana 44 rear. It has PS, PB, original radio, clock, tach, and factory A/C that blows ice-cold. It even has the factory optioned 20 gallon gas tank, tilt steering and cruise control!”
I had forgotten the old Jeeps had this wonderfully vintage dash panel and gauge cluster, and the switchgear appears to be in mint condition. The long-throw shift lever is how every 4×4 should be equipped, and there’s really very little to fault on the cosmetics of the dash and instrument binnacle. The engine isn’t entirely stock, as it has an upgraded carburetor and the original isn’t included; the seller notes that the factory hardtop has an aftermarket sunroof cut into it.
The seats remain in exceptional condition as well, which is truly remarkable considering how many Jeeps have weathered interiors due to years of relentless sun exposure. Some paint work has been performed, with the seller noting the following: “The only paint work done to this Jeep was one small plug hole that has been repaired on the driver side and some very minor paint work on the hood and windshield frame. We have before and after pictures of everything done.” So, for a final year AMC Jeep that’s largely as it left the factory, where do you think this no-reserve listing will end up at?
A/C is really nice, even the two times you get to use it here in Wisconsin. It just seems wrong in a CJ. Nice rig though. As a Willys owner, not my style.
Already gone!
Love that it’s parked next to a Grand Wagoneer. This was a Jeep guy!
It’s already been taken down! Nice jeep! I had a 74 CJ 5 I never really liked it because at that time I lived in Kansas! What really stunk was the heater! You couldn’t get a hard top for a 5 only soft top at the time and you would freeze your behinney off in it in winter! Kept it one winter and got rid of it as soon as I could! However I wished I still had it just to resale, looks like it would have brought good money now!
4 recorded owners. What’s a “plug hole?’
Technically, 1987 would have been the last model year for AMC ownership since cars are always built a year ahead of time
