10k Original Miles: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette

The original owner of this 1968 Corvette purchased it new, drove it for six months, and then sold it to his neighbor. This second owner then drove it fairly sparingly until 1973, when he put it up on stands to undertake some brake work, and that is precisely where the car remained until very recently. Now, with a claimed 9,900 genuine miles on the clock, the car has been revived and is looking for a new home. If you have always wanted a low mileage Corvette, then this might be the car for you. It is located in Columbia Station, Ohio, and is listed for sale here on eBay.

If the mileage claims are accurate, then that would explain why the Rally Red paintwork looks so good. This is said to be the original paint, with the car never receiving any form of repaint work during its life. The overall presentation of every external aspect of the car is extremely good, and if the claims are true, then the storage environment must have been close to ideal. There is a single shot of the underside of the car, and it does look to be spotless. All that has been done to the body and paint since the car was removed from storage is that the exterior of the car has been cleaned.

While the car was in storage, the owner would periodically start it up to keep everything free and working correctly. That original 327ci V8 is said to be spot on and has had no work performed on it beyond normal servicing. The Corvette is also fitted with a 4-speed close-ratio transmission, and a Posi rear end. The car is also fitted with power steering and power brakes. Since it was removed from its slumber it has received a new exhaust, four new brake calipers, four brake hoses, four new tires, and a new battery. The rest of the car is as it emerged from hiding.

Complimenting the Rally Red paint is a black leather interior. The interior is 100% original, and everything works, right down to the notoriously unreliable clock. Power windows, an AM/FM radio, and a speed warning take care of comfort and entertainment, as well as providing some protection to your Driver’s License. The owner still holds a reasonable amount of documentation for the car, including a legible “Tank Sticker” order copy,  the Protect-O-Plate Warranty Book, Owners Manual, FM radio sheet, over-ride control instruction tag, and air pollution pamphlet.

If the mileage claims stack up, then this Corvette represents a rare opportunity to buy a car of this vintage with low mileage. The owner has set a BIN price of $49,500 for the Corvette, but there is also the option to make an offer. So, do we have any takers?

This is quite a find, however, in terms of price/value don’t have a clue. Looks like the front license plate holder was the only thing that slightly rusted. I loved this until I saw that ’67 GTO convertible with factory hood tach peeking over the Vette’s right quarter panel.

The tank sticker is legible because of the low miles and long term storage. Looks like it is still on the tank. Nice rig and like RoughDiamond, not a clue on the value.

That’s a hefty price, BUT this Corvette is a time capsule ! Beautiful car, 4 speed, and a 327.WOW ! I’m also seeing Camaro SS sitting next to it, that’s an impressive garage. This is going to make someone very happy, it’s a nice one .Good luck to the new owner and drive that car !

A beauty but if one has it, do you drive it, rack up miles, paint chips, and wear or just drive it sparingly and admire it? Tough choice if one is spending big bucks on such a rare and very low mileage original. I’m guessing a Corvette collector will pop for it and merely add it to their herd of other Corvettes.
I say drive it and enjoy it…carefully. Perfect color combo, too.

Neat find. Considering it is doing so well at judged events, I would say its worth the asking price, surprised it hasn’t sold. Seller must know the market well and priced it just right looking for the one buyer that will continue this life. Continue to drive it on sparingly on sunny summer days and enjoy a rarity in the survivor world.

Looks and sounds completely legit. Sure not often that you find 10K mile muscle cars with a known history like this. 50 may be top dollar but you can be comfortable with your purchase. The Owners Manual, FM radio sheet, over-ride control instruction tag, and air pollution pamphlet are not documentation but sure nice to have. The Tank Sticker and Protect-o-plate are priceless.

The problem with him getting that type of money for a ’68 is that it’s a small block. They just aren’t there, yet.
If it was a BB, the sky would be the limit.

Yeah, those tank stickers don’t fare well in the elements, even with this low mileage. I pulled mine off after over 100K miles and it looked only slightly worse than this one. The only illegible sections were the ones that had been bunched up by the crazy adhesive they use, which caused that dark blotch in the one seen here.

If it had a luggage rack, it might get that kind of money. Couldn’t resist – LOL!

Back in the day ’68’s were about as popular as the ’84 is today…Nice car with the right color scheme.

Shouldn’t dash & door panels be the same shade of black? Dash may be new or armoral’d to death. Or “wipe new” product was used. & door panels were left alone? I see speed control on speedo! How rare is THAT! on a vette?
I see an air pump on ’68 motor – must be orig Calif car.
Odd that a non Calif ’74 pontiac 400 needs no air pump.

I’m wondering why the chrome under the hood, such as the air cleaner top, didn’t rust over. Thin chrome like that rusts very quickly.

What a beauty ! My own car has number is 194378S412463, not so far away from this one ! I got it from Illinois and is in good shape and 99% original. Now sitting in my garage in France, I enjoy it all year round, except winter months.
I wish I could upgrade it to power Windows, if some upgrade kits exist.
