While the Chevrolet Camaro is one of those autos that gets plenty of attention in the classic car marketplace, one trim line that doesn’t seem to show up as often is the Berlinetta, the more luxurious F-Body in the Chevy lineup. The Berlinetta was introduced near the end of production for the second-generation Camaro, which first appeared in 1979 and lasted through 1986. Some say it was intended to lure a more upscale audience to consider choosing a Camaro, along with making the car more appealing to potential female buyers. This 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta here on eBay is described as a 15,000-mile time capsule, and although it’s not perfect, this one is a nicely preserved example overall. It’s located in Phoenix, Arizona, with the no-reserve auction having only reached $1,731 so far, but I’m guessing that amount will likely climb.

Compared to many Camaros from the period, this Berlinetta has a much tamer look outside, as there’s no rear spoiler, and the wire wheel covers and whitewalls are more oriented toward an eighties luxury offering than a sports car. The seller reports that this Chevy remains 100 percent original and is an untouched survivor, still just as it left the factory, including the original paint. The plastic bumper covers aren’t among GM’s finest creations, and the rear unit looks particularly weathered here. However, the body still appears good overall, with just a few chips in the finish on the lower sections.

Another difference between the Berlinetta and the base Camaro can be spotted inside, as the dash area has a flatter shape. The steering wheel and console armrest show some wear, but Arizona is a hot climate, and the seller says he has documentation from new that the stated mileage is accurate. The car is also mentioned as being a lifelong resident of AZ and never left the state, so being operated locally has likely also helped keep the odometer reading low. A few welcomed options here include a tilt steering column, cruise control, and air conditioning.

The seller doesn’t provide any engine specifics, but he does include a photo of the original window sticker, which shows that this one has the base 3.8-liter V6 under the hood, paired with the optional automatic transmission. This was probably a desirable feature when fuel economy was on everybody’s mind in the early eighties, but with three optional V8s available, one of those might attract a broader range of potential buyers now. Any thoughts to share about this 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta?

This bring back memories!! A teacher in my High School had a pristine ( well, it wasnt that old, so I guess it should have been) 1980 Camaro Berlinetta, it was silver with a red interior, had the 3.8 V6 like this one. Iy had silver painted Rally wheels though which looked nice. This makes a nice Z28 alternative and a nice cruiser as well. Thanks Mike, great write up.
The high school art teacher had a ’79 with the 250 cid I6, it’s last year. The 229 cid V6 specs are identical to a 305 cid V8, minus 2 cylinders.
Noticed this has no factory radio option, just a windshield antenna on the window sticker. That radio looks like a dealer installed Audiovox brand.
