15k Original Miles: 1980 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1980 Chevrolet Corvette presents beautifully, which is unsurprising given that its odometer shows 15,000 original miles. It is a genuine survivor with one reversible interior upgrade, and is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a high-end driver to park in their garage. Its excellent mechanical health would allow the new owner to fly in and develop a relationship with their new purchase as they make the road trip home. The seller has listed the Corvette here on eBay in Mount Clemens, Michigan. They set their BIN at $28,500 with the option to make an offer.

Although Chevrolet knew that the C3 Corvette was reaching the end of its production cycle, it unveiled a surprising number of changes for the 1980 model year. Cosmetically, this included new bumpers, a restyled hood, and badge changes that refreshed what was becoming an aging design. This ‘Vette rolled off the line during that year, ordered by the first owner in Code 10 White. This shade was the most popular of the ten offered by Chevrolet in 1980, accounting for 7,780 cars during that model year. The history of this classic isn’t stated in the seller’s listing, but its presentation is impressive. The paint shines nicely, with the close-up images revealing no significant cosmetic shortcomings. The panels are excellent, and there is no evidence of rust that could spoil the ownership experience. The glass roof panels are crystal clear, as is the trim. Interestingly, one aluminum wheel is missing a lug nut, and I’m surprised no one has replaced it. Otherwise, little about this Corvette’s exterior presentation deserves criticism.

Powering this Corvette is the L48 version of Chevrolet’s iconic 350ci V8. This small-block should produce 190hp and 280 ft/lbs of torque. Neither figure is startling by modern standards, but matters could have been worse if this classic had started life in sunny California. Buyers in that state received the 305ci powerplant, delivering 180hp and 255 ft/lbs of torque. This Corvette also features a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. The seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying their mileage claim. However, they emphasize that the vehicle has always been appropriately maintained, which means the supplied documentation may include Service Records confirming the figure. They state that this survivor runs and drives well, making it a turnkey proposition for its new owner.

Chevrolet attempted to provide value for money when it introduced the 1980 Corvette. Standard equipment included air conditioning, power windows, and a tilt/telescopic wheel. This car features dazzling Red leather trim, and the lack of seat wear, particularly on the outer edges, seemingly supports the mileage claim. The carpet is excellent, the wheel appears to be in as-new condition, and there are no issues with the dash or plastic. Someone added an aftermarket radio/cassette player, but the seller includes the original AM/FM stereo radio if the buyer prefers authenticity.

I guarantee that if you searched the classic market, you would effortlessly find plenty of 1980 Corvettes at lower prices than our feature car. Some will be a case of getting what you pay for, needing work to meet the standards set by this survivor. Therefore, while the seller’s price sits at the top end of the market, it is probably realistic if the odometer reading is verifiable. That will be key to a successful sale, and the seller’s willingness to entertain in-person inspections indicates their confidence in this Corvette. Are those thoughts enough to tempt you to pursue this classic further?

Totally beautiful. I’m a stickler for details in the engine bay this is untouched. I adore the fact that the early lock up torque convertor switch is still properly mounted and hooked up as it should. This is a fantastic buy
