16k Mile Survivor: 1969 Mercury Marquis Brougham

In the 1960s and 1970s, the Marquis was Mercury’s top-of-the-line car, sandwiched between Ford LTD and Lincoln Continental in the corporate hierarchy. They were big, luxurious automobiles that were powerful, too, with a 429 cubic inch V8 in the 1969 models, like the seller’s 2-door hardtop. We’re told this nice survivor has just 16,000 miles and has always been garage-kept. Located in Yuma, Arizona, this beauty is available here on craigslist for $12,500 OBO. Thanks for the bodacious tip, Barn Finder numskal!

The Marquis Brougham had two fancy words in its name. Marquis stood for French nobility and Brougham for an enclosed carriage for the rich and famous. Mercury used the Marquis nameplate for 20 years beginning in 1967 and was applied to high-end sedans and hardtops, though the wagon was still called Colony Park. While the Marquis shared many LTD components, the 2-door had its own roof treatment and saw 18,300 copies roll off the assembly line in 1969.

Given the apparent condition of this car, the claimed low mileage could be real and suggestive of an older owner who seldom drove the vehicle. Perhaps said owner has passed away and his/her relatives are selling the automobile. But that’s just a supposition as no mention is made of such. The Merc has a C6 automatic transmission to go with the big-block V8. The tires are new, but the spare is original.

The body and paint on this machine look great, though perhaps the latter could stand a bit of detailing. The seller says this could be an easy restoration, but why mess with something that seems fine the way it is? Climb inside that inviting interior and take a cruise on Route 66 (or what’s left of it; a bucket list trip for me!). This car needs a new home – could it be yours?

Great find! The 2 dr coupe is one of the best looking Marquis ever. Very Lincolnesque! This one’s mileage appears believable based on the phenomenal condition it’s in. What a bargain!

Agree it’s clean and possibly 16,500 mileage but ehy does the left belt/shoulder strap look like it’s starting to fray, or is that just loose fuzz?

Billyray…. If i had money, I’d tell you what I’d do, I’d go downtown and buy a Mercury or two 🎸

With the exception of the split front center armrests, the interior looks similar to my former ’69 Caprice coupe. Loved/miss it!

I had the LTD equivalent to this Merc, same color. Very nice car with lots of power. This will be a great buy if you have the space for it.

My late Father’s favorite car of all time, his had the 4BBL 429 and you had to put premium gas in it or it didn’t run correctly. We bought it before Christmas for a vacation to Florida. It was a very sharp car, and with the hidden headlights and sequential turn signals, it drew attention. So much so that people with umbrellas would stand in the rain to check it out. This was the best looking full-size car offered by Ford that year. Good memories and makes me miss my Father .

Very nice, and for 12,500 you won’t find a nicer one. These were big rusters in the Northeast usually starting in the rear Quarters. Those distinctive wheel opening lips were always bondoed up when repaired, this one still has them. It’s a 2 door with a 429 and no rust what’s not to like.

This is the almost-a-Lincoln direction that Ford was taking with Mercury. Many details were unique but you often did a double take to be sure of what you saw. Probably a cost measure given the lower volume of either one. Not unusual given that GM was known to share pieces with Buick and Cadillac. Difference being that Chevys were made to resemble Caddys while B-O-Ps had their own look. Beautiful car.

Heck yes! Only thing better than a station wagon with a 440 is a Mercury with a 429! Not only would that 429 like speed parts but those high back seats are to die for if you like your couch in your car with a 429 you bet!

There is no possible way the engine compartment would get that nasty in less than 17,000 miles… under the hood would be pristine with that low of miles

With No Grass or Rain In Arizona and Nothing But Sand and Rock That Engine Bay Would Stay Dusty, And That’s All It Looks Like

Not everyone details the engine bay, it’s All original, and looks it, low mileage, doesn’t take away almost 55 year’s of just dust, and oxidation, it looks good for an all original, unrestored not detailed engine bay!

I have waited patiently for THE find on this site. Might be time to tap into some rainy day funds. From previous posts I am a BIG American car guy. First car was a 1963 Olds Ninety-Eight. Then a 1954 Pontiac Chieftian. Couple of Caddy’s, Electra duece and a quarter, etc. Gas mileage? If you have to ask….Comfort, baby.

I agree Mr.D. I had a 71 Merc Marquis 2 Dr. H.T. Had a 351 Cleveland motor but still enough power to get me down the road. And living room comfort on the road. Loved it but Michigan’s salted winter roads took its toll. At my age I’d love another big floater but have neither the room nor my wife’s blessing.

When I was dating my wife her Mom had this in a dark green. Very comfortable back seat.

Just gorgeous. This is a top 10 pick for me – if I couldn’t get a nice Mark 3 I’d gladly settle for this beauty.

“Book’em Dan-O! Murder One.” I can almost picture Jack Lord stepping out of a brown or black example, wearing a classic blue suit, white shirt and dark tie as he uttered those immortal words! Nice!

Nice sled !! Nothing like the 429 in a big car, had one that was juiced up a bit in my 69 Ford LTD wagon, used it like a truck, but was better than a truck !! 5000 lbs of beautiful American steel !!

Still for sale after a month? And that engine bay How dirty it is leaves me with a few questions. Being an Arizona car it just might be like this.. Love this car though Great deal for a great Mercury
