17k Original Miles: 1964 Chrysler New Yorker

This 1964 Chrysler New Yorker is a two owner vehicle, and it has been in the same family since 1985. The family has decided that the time has come for it to find a new home, so you will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Pontiac, Michigan, and is being offered for sale with a clean title. The owner of this Chrysler has set the asking price at $10,000.

The owner claims that the New Yorker has covered a genuine 17,000 miles, but does not mention whether they hold any documentary evidence to verify this claim. The car does present well, but it is not perfect. It is believed that the car has undergone a repaint in its original color at some point. There are a few scratches and marks in the paint, and some of the external chrome trim is pitted. and a couple of pieces are missing. From a personal perspective, the thing that looks wrong to me on the car is its current tires. Am I alone in thinking that tires with raised white letters look out of place on this car?

The interior is an area where the car really shines, and apart from some odd coloring in the carpet on the driver’s side, it looks good. One feature that I have always liked about these cars is that square steering wheel. It’s a funky feature that just looks cool. The car is also fitted with power windows, a factory push-button radio, and aftermarket Mark IV air conditioning that blows cold.

The rear seat is also in good condition. The upholstery is all original, and it has held its color and shape really well. The door trims all look good, and the headliner is also in great shape. One aspect that impresses me is the state of the rear parcel tray. These can really receive a hammering from UV rays, and the punched speaker holes can collapse over time, but this one looks really good.

The New Yorker retains its original 413ci V8 engine and TorqueFlite transmission. The car is fitted with power steering, and new power brakes have also been fitted. The owner says that the car runs and drives really well, and the brakes are fantastic. There is some dried out coolant on the top of the radiator, and this is something that I never like to see.

A Chrysler New Yorker of this year in good condition will currently fetch between $10,000 and $15,000. This car fits somewhere in that area. If the mileage can be verified, then it would fit into the top end of that price range, and its value is only potentially impacted by those couple of minor blemishes that have been previously mentioned, but these are fairly easy and cheap to rectify.

    What a RIDE!

Neighbor had one when I was growing up, but in White with a Silvery Light Blue interior fabric. Groovy!

I had a 64 like this exactly was 60000 original miles I was the second owner. The NADA guide said it was worth $20,000. After showing it to the Chrysler 300 Club when they visited my town of Palm Springs. They claimed I would be lucky to get 5 grand for it because it was not a very desirable model. Sold it for 4000 but only paid $2,000 so I guess that’s not bad

Pd28duke, sounds like the 300 club were a bit up themselves, don’t you hate it when some a….hole poo poo’s every other car except the ones they choose to own. It’s the same old story, (nya, nya, mine’s better than yours), disgusting !
Everyone one to their own in this world but don’t insult others for their personal choices in anything !

Great old car, I like that it’s a hardtop all I’d do is some spot repair on the paint fallowed buy good cleaning and waxing. I’d adress the radiator leak issue and detail the car under the hood. I like the the hint of fin left on the back and the fact that it is one of the last cars to have its styling cues from the 50’s. I don’t really care that’s it’s low miles I’d still put this car out on the road every summer if I had it.

      YES.

I forgot to mention, if anyone on BF wants eyes on the car, it is only a few miles from me. Note that the current user name came because of the upgrade to membership, I am/have been seen here as “Alan (Michigan)” … The site would not allow use of parentheses in a user name!

And, apparently the ability to edit for 5 minutes after a post is non-functional. I wanted to add that the photos can’t be too recent, the leaves are long gone from the trees, and we have a bit of snow!

Alan(Michigan) by any other name is just a DayDreamBeliever. That’s clever!

Anyway, but in speaking of price and irrelevance to the price at hand….in the mid seventies I came close to buying one exactly like this for $ 250.00. See my problem with pricing today? Still a really good looking if conservatively styled auto. Yes the tires are inconsistent with the personal luxury slot this car occupied at the time.

Nice ride. I have a 64’ Chrysler Newport station wagon, 2 door hardtop and what a sweet ride. Wish I had the 413 ci, but the 361ci works just fine.
The only thing that I see that might require attention would be the radiator. Note the “green” stain on top. Had the same issue with mine and had to replace the radiator. Too far gone to repair. US Radiator makes this model at a cost of $450. The new owner will not be disappointed.

Yes I agree the tires don’t look right for this type of car,but that’s a easy fix and check the radiator issue ,other than that,I would park the Escalade and drive this classy beast on Sundays

I owned one in the late sixties ….. what a car …. every time I got in it ‘ that ‘ steering wheel just got me

Yeah David, the steering wheel in my 62 Imperial is the same, when you’re sitting at a corner with the wheels slightly turned your hands are close together, when you straighten the wheels they’re further apart, it’s an odd feeling so I usually only use one hand to steer, especially with the light power steering it’s easy. The square front corners on the fenders come close to the Imperial shape as well. Nice car. They call the steering wheel the TV screen wheel !

“Bullet-proof” is right. I”ve owned my ’63 New Yorker for 26 years; got it from the proverbial little old lady who willed it to me when she died, after I took care of it for her for 10 years. 76,000 miles on it now. That 413 is just loafing at 60 m.p.h. These are very well-built, quality cars.

This New Yorker is gorgeous! So much styke and class can be yours for only $10k! Even if it was 117k on the clock- the condition speaks volumes, especially that interior.

Unfortunately, there are those out there who’d pay double for a 64 Impala sedan and yet, come up short in every possible aspect.

FYI- it’s also listed in Hemmings with 35 pictures for those of you (like myself) who’d like to further admire this beauty!

Seriously??? Are those raised white letter tires supposed to make that four door look sporty? Can’t we put some white walls on it and at least let it look as it should. It’s a four door luxury car, not a sports car and all the raised white letters in the world won’t change that.

Says volumes about a car if the only thing that gets complained about is the choice of tires. Thankfully, they aren’t glued to the rims!

Lose the truck tires and put some 17″ Torque Thrusts on it. Great colors.

      Agreed!
I wish someone had sent me on a mission to look it over.
But the listing is expired, and unless someone archived with a phone number, no contact now. Likely the car has been put away until spring
