Long ago, there was a fast-food TV commercial whose tagline proclaimed, “Parts is Parts“. Well, maybe that’s true with fast food but not so much with cars. Sure, it’s always possible to take a part that was made for Car A and “make” it fit Car B, but it’s usually better if you can get the actual part. So with that in mind, if you have a parts-needy 1956 through 1962 MGA, we’ve got you covered with a frame and many other important components available, here on Barn Finds Classifieds for $9,500. Everything is located in Quincy, Illinois, so let’s review and see exactly what’s here.
Many cars from the ’50s and ’60s are rust magnets. The combination of the type of steel, lack of protective coatings, and challenging climatic conditions spelled the death knell for many cars from that era. And unfortunately, British models seemed to really take it on the chin when it came to corrosion. Many times, I have reviewed MG’s and Triumphs here on Barn Finds that have damaged, but repairable body panels, but they’re sitting on top of what amounts to a frame consisting of twisted cinders in the sort of shape of what was once reminiscent of a chassis. Many will assume that’s a checkmate situation, but not necessarily. It’s a matter of finding the right parts.
The for-sale inventory includes: “(2) restored frames, (1) restored rolling chassis with front suspension, rear end, wire-spoke wheels, and new tires, (2) pairs of rust-free fenders, (1) pair of fiberglass rear fenders, (1) fiberglass top and complete set of rust-free hood, both front fenders, both doors, trunk lid, and both rear fenders“. There is probably not enough here to build an entire car, but one will be able to go pretty far in returning a wasted away MGA back to a new and restored life.
But wait, there’s more! The seller advises, “Also included, but not photographed front suspension with wire-spoke wheels and tires, fiberglass top, misc gauges, seats, top irons, taillights with taillight housings, and much more“. OK, we’re getting closer to being able to manufacture an entire MGA. Obviously, an engine, transmission, driveshaft, wiring, trim, and interior components, among other items, will be needed but a sizable parts variety, in this condition, will give the new owner plenty of mix and match opportunities. To get a more complete look at what’s available, be sure to check out the MGA parts images on Fotki.
Another old TV ad for an auto dealership proclaimed, “To get it any cheaper, you’ll have to build it yourself!” This parts opportunity reminds me of that by-gone commercial because the new owner will be pretty much doing that, building it themselves. Why run all over the internet looking for just the proper MGA parts when you can find so many, and in such great shape, right here in one transaction, right?
Too bad they don’t have 1951 mg parts
Poptheclutch, I don;t have any 1951 MG parts, but I do have a frame off restored 1951 MGTD Roadster
poptheclutch,
Pretty sure that this car is from a private collection ?
I do think at one time, there was one early MG, and maybe 2.
Porsche 356 body burned.
One or two MGA Twin cam cars, one was horribly rusty as I recall?
RR Convertible, and a one off creation that topped the private collection.
IT is nice to see that this MGA is being treated to a true frame up restoration, and that very nice original parts are also being used. Nice car, hope the Barn Finds auction brings you top dollar !
John
I am not selling a car just a nice large rust free collection of parts. Collectively these parts are worth more than the price listed. Moss sells front fenders for $2,000 each

Looking for a transmission cover, where the gear shift sticks up, several bolts secure it. This would be for a 1956 MGA. Do you have such a thing?
