“You’ve got chocolate on my peanut butter!” “You’ve got peanut butter on my chocolate!” Some of you older folks (like my age) may remember that old Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial. Here’s an automotive version; “You’ve got a ’57 Chevy on my ’94 Camaro!” This unusual melding of Chevys is on Craigslist with an asking price of $16,900. It’s located in Troutville, Virginia. Thanks to Rocco B. for tracking down this Belaro!
I’m not quite sure what to think about this one, other than man, that took an incredible amount of time and money. Kudos to the builder for creating this… creation. This is a love-it-or-hate-it car for sure but hopefully we can all appreciate the amount of work and engineering and design and money that went into this car. Oddly enough, even though the front end and rear end are obviously from a 1957 Chevrolet, I can still see the ’94 Camaro in there. Now if they would have combined a King Midget and a ’57 Chevy…
Here’s where the ’57 Chevy part goes bye-bye. The interior appears to be all 1990s all the time, not that it’s a bad thing. This one is most likely made more for cruising than for the pleasure of driving given that it has an automatic. That isn’t to say that cars with automatics are automatically (cough) not fun to drive. The seller hints as to the features in this creation: “PS, PB, PW, tilt, cruise, 4Wheel disc brakes”. We know that there’s more there somewhere. And, there are no photos of it with the top down which always seems so unusual to me when selling a convertible.
But, thankfully there is an engine photo and it’s again, all Z28. And, that’s a good thing if the idea was to make what is hopefully a mostly trouble-free cruiser rather than an old school bruiser. No carburetor to mess with, literally, and lots of power should be on tap here but there’s no mention other than “LT Motor”. There’s no need to drop an SBC in this one, it’s already there! Well, you know what I mean. A 1994 Camaro Z28 with an LT1 engine would do 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, that’s nothing to sneeze at. Any thoughts on this Balaro?
How soon till we see a 57 Chevy with 94 Camaro front and rear sheet metal.
Looks like a fibre glass kit conversion to me which is just fine. I think it’s kind of neat, modern driving car old school look. The work looks well exicuted as well. Just a fun car.
It’s a kit…http://www.easyrods.com/belaro.html
Ok, with that additional information, putting the shotgun and pitchfork away. Generally speaking, I’m ok with kit cars. My original thought was someone took both a z28 AND a ’57 Chevy and made THAT!?!?!
But, feeling a bit better now. Still not fond of the look, but different strokes for different folks.
Thanks for posting the site. Met this guy at a few shows and meets. Nice guy, funny idea, but hey to each their own!
An abomination , a crime , visual pollution.
Muy fugly
Reminds me of the 1960’s Bobby Goldsboro song, “See the Funny Little Clown.”
i hate to admit but… i considered these at one point… but more i looked, the proportions are off… yes i know it is “modernized” as it were, but if you ever see a profile shot, and compare to a 57… it is about 8-12″ too short and reminds me of those “shorty” 57 people made where take the WHOLE rear door section part of the car out from a 4 door and mash together.
hard to find a side profile of these
the take w/s etc all look good, it is just that “truncated” look the bothers me (that and 5500 us JUST for the kit alone!)
here is another shorty
i think it is that the back wheel is too close to the door with that LARGE overhang, maybe that is what makes it look like a 57 shorty
yes i think that is it… proportions… no harm is a smaller version / interpretation but proportional
Don’t like them…..ugly replica junk…..no thanks….
Worse ride I’ve ever seen. Kits, neoclassicals included. The worst.
I’m a 70 year old and I think it looks pretty cool. JRD
Maybe someone wants to meld a Mercedes 500K Roadster with a Chrysler Airflow using an Edsel Grill to bring it all together, then we can all barf.
No then we can call it a rat rod, which is a whole differant category. So much negativity over a car that is just supposed to be a fun cruiser.
I don’t think it looks too bad with the top down, especially from a 3/4 angle. Top up, not so good.
grey and black cars are what they call SHORTY cars made from a 4 door cutting the WHOLE rear seat section and welding back together
the turquiose is a real 57 convertile to show how the proportions are a bit off on the red one which is a side view of the belaro… just to make sure everyone knows what is what… the grey and black are NOT belaros … not even close.. they are REAL 57s that have been shortened
The gray car is a 56 not a 57.
Just one word…. NO!
I just want to compliment you on such an original comment.
I absolutely can top this car for the ugliness factor, and as I head down to the shop tomorrow I’ll take some photos of the thing and post them when I get home. You won’t believe it.
Actually, maybe BF would want me to submit it for their approval? How would I do that? Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Well someone put some time into that kit or not so I’m going to be nice and just stop there…….
This is about 15 miles from me,
& I have NO desire to go look at it.
Not a fan of this model camaro. Many of these, along with mustangs, which are well thrashed seem to be for sale everywhere.
…so I say kudos to the owner who covers one up…GLWTS.
It’s something different. I sort of like it. The ones on here that don’t. No imagination at all. There lives are most likely as dull as they are.
The slant of the hood & windshield doesn’t look right. Ick…
kill it with 🔥🔥🔥!
This shows that It is really hard to make a car body look good. The men at the design studio of fisher in the 50’s and 60’s were some of the best ever. I am sure they made clay model after clay model to get it perfect. That’s part of the reason we love them so much.
I was going to say I didn’t know if this was better or worse than the “convert a 90s Thunderbird to a 49 Ford” kits, and then I looked it up. Of course it’s made by the same company.
http://www.easyrods.com/ford.html
All a bit too “Hot Wheels” for me. Definately different.
My friend built one; it is even uglier in real life. The photos do not convey its homeliness. They also make a kit to add early 1950’s “shoebox Ford” front and rear end to later model T Birds. The proportions are much better.
Yeah I was just about to post that the Fords look pretty cool
I would be curious to see the difference in 1/4 time between the Camaro and this car.
This body kit is not aerodynamic at all so that would be interesting to see.
beugly!
Its just not the same! Bruce.
Kinda reminds me of those C5 Corvettes with a C2 body kit. And those mid 80s T-birds with shoebox Ford’s front & rear ends . This Camaro doesn’t quite float my boat.
Craig, you must be thinking of Classic Reflections Coachworks in Tacoma: http://www.crcoachworks.com/. While their in-house creations keep their babies well out of my price range ($87,500 plus your donor Vette), their quality appears top notch. Still, just like the wrong proportions in the above creation, not to mention the seriously wrong windshield angle, the CR custom early Vettes have a similar problem – 62’s just don’t look right when stretched out to fit the C5/6 chassis. If you could get past that, you’d have a sweet ride. If I could afford a $100K car, the proportions better be right!
The car isn’t supposed to look exactly like a 57 Chevy. It’s meant to look like a Camaro with a body kit meant to resemble a 57. And it does that. You definitely won’t be a cookie cutter car at the car shows. And you will probably get to the shows without breaking down. If I had any critique for it, I would absolutely do the interior in all black 57 style vinyl. A black interior would make a world of difference on that car.
I like it. If I had the money and a place to park it I’d buy it.
They say there’s a seat for every butt. I’d hate to meet up with the deranged individual attached to the one for that car.
glad for the variety.
Like many, would not own but I’m just 1 guy. Others don’t like what I do.
A while back someone took an older pick up and dropped it on a Mercedes SUV. Looked good a bit better then this mix.
57. Chev. Was fugly anyway so this os definitely an improvement
While both cars are nice looking, the fourth gen Camaro windshield angle with the 57 front end are absolutely hideous together.
It looks like something a KLINGON would drive!!!
Wow lots of haters out here.
I built one of these cars 8 years ago.
One of my favorite cars I have ever driven.
Has the look of an old car with the power and suspension of a newer one.
Wins awards almost everyplace I take it.
You don’t have to like it. Nobody is asking you too.
But look at it this way I didn’t spend any of your money building it.
So why have such a bad feeling towards something different.
If we all drove the same cookie cutter car then nobody would enjoy car shows.
I have had several 57 chevys over the years. But these are unique and you will probably be the only one at the show. That alone draws the attention.
