This 1964 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 barn find might look staged, but it’s not. This Jag was found hiding in this barn, where it had been for many years. The barn did a great job of protecting it from the elements, leaving it in very solid shape. The seller has done a little work to the brakes, but has otherwise left it as found. It has been listed here on eBay Classifieds with an asking price of £3,995 or about $6,000.

The seller has fought the temptation to clean the dirt and dust from this barn find, so that the next owner can have the joy of cleaning it. The only problem with this is that it’s difficult to tell what’s hiding underneath all that dirt. From what can be seen in the photos it looks to be solid, but without inspecting it closely it’s hard to know for sure.

The interior is showing its age and is going to need a lot of attention. Most everything could be salvaged, such as the wood and the leather, but will need lots of reconditioning. It appears that someone started a restoration at some point, which could mean there is something seriously wrong mechanically.

This S-Type is powered by the same 3.8 liter straight six found in Jaguar’s sporty XKE which produced 220 horsepower. The seller hasn’t tried to start this big six yet, but they claim it turns over and that all the electrical systems are in working order.

This was a hot car back when it was new, with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60 time of 10 seconds. It is going to need a considerable amount of work before it will be speeding around town any time soon. Getting it to this side of the pond could be expensive, but not impossible…

Also, I kid you not, I saw one of these ON THE ROAD this morning (05/23/2013) on the way to work. Not on the side of the road, but in actual motion! No, I was not tripping. It can be done dear fellow (or madam) and you are just the fellow (or madam) to give it the old college try.

That image of the S-Type as found in the barn defines the “barn find” concept to me. What a great photo.

Having owned MGB’s & one E-Type I am amazed at any claim the electrical system is in order after sitting for years or just having been serviced !
