There are some cars you look at and say, “That’s an honest vehicle that deserves to be brought back.” We all know it – there are other vehicles, no matter our personal connection to them, that are too far gone to justify the cost of restoration. This 1967 Lotus Elan here on eBay is currently bid to just over $2,500 with the reserve unmet and looks like a great candidate to prime, paint and enjoy. OK – there’s definitely more involved than simply throwing on some fresh paint, but the lack of rust and seemingly un-messed with condition (factory wheels, gauges, steering wheel all still present) give me some hope that this car could be a pleasure instead of a pain to restore. The larger radiator and cooling fan, along with the quick-release hood pins and roll hoops indicate this Elan might have seen some track use, which wouldn’t deter me – that’s where these cars shined! Plus, it would add to the cache of owning a classic with an interesting history. So, does anyone else agree with me that this is a great restoration candidate or am I a dreamer?
Jeff, you are spot on. Most people haven’t a clue how much fun an early Lotus is, be it the Elan or Elan +2.
Compared to the price of a 356 or pre ’75 911 the fun factor is very high.
Now I’m sure there will be comments about the electrics, but if you keep you grounds cleaned it usually does just fine on Brit cars.
A body off would be best for this one. Remember, Ford running gear. Ford makes new blocks

seller is a dealer who wants $19500 for this car. there are some other interesting vehicles for sale on seller website. would need to do a very good PI then make an offer. car does need saved but is going to take a lot of time/money to do a complete rebuild. great find
The wet bodywork and concrete suite the image of this vehicle, a prettty illusion….
because the rest of it demonstrates it has the appearance of a vehicle that was underwater and if you pay the almost $20K the dealer wants, I do believe that you will be too.
