1969 International Scout 800A Barn Find!

We’ve been accused of featuring vehicles that aren’t “real” barn finds. The phrase is subjective, but I don’t think anyone will argue that this 1969 Scout is the real deal. Or will they? It’s dirty and is sitting in a building that looks like it’s about ready to fall down. It’s located in Dagsboro, Delaware, and is at auction here on eBay.

The interior of this Scout actually photographed pretty well once they got it out in the light. This is an 800A (built between 1968-1970) so it benefits from many improvements. There were “luxury” features added but the most notable changes include an uprated transfer case and beefier axles. These were needed because there was a more powerful V8 on the options list.

And lucky for us, this Scout has it! The 304 V8 was the top engine choice when this Scout was new. It’s always nice to find out things like this when you discover an old vehicle in a barn. Nothing will extinguish the barn find fire faster than then learning that your discovery is equipped with the base engine option.

Well, that and rust. Things look pretty crusty under there so let’s just hope there isn’t a lot of rot under there. Corrosion can kill a deal so I’d want to inspect this one in person or at least get more photos of the trouble areas. These weren’t known for their rust protection so you’ll want to take a closer look at the floors, frame, and all suspension mounts.

Unfortunately, the seller doesn’t give us much information about this Scout’s past. They claim it’s a time capsule and that the interior is mostly original. Honestly, it could just be their plow rig that they park in the barn during the summer months. Either way, it’s a cool find that most 4×4 guys would love to stumble upon. Is this the kind of “real” barn find you like to see more of?
