This 1972 Dodge Dart is a fantastic garage find at a great price. For a current bid price of $3,650, you can take this green Dart home. Only 9 bidders have tossed their money in and no reserve is set. It is stored away in a garage in Elk Grove, California. The seller has listed a VIN, a clean title, and 98,000 miles. One photo of the engine bay is provided. The seller has noted that this car is a 318 cubic-inch V8 connected to an automatic transmission. Thankfully, there two undercarriage photos provided by the seller. While things look a little greasy, nothing seems to be leaking inappropriately. There does not appear to be any rust either, which if the car spent most of its life in California, that certainly helped it.
No bucket seats are found on this Dart. It comes with a bench seat and a fold-down armrest between the two seats. While the fabric is not in the best condition, there do not appear to be significant holes in it. Who knows what it might smell like at this age, but as long as it has remained dry, it shouldn’t be too bad. There are a number of photos of the interior. One of those photos shows a stain or something discolored on the floor. The wood steering wheel is certainly a unique touch.
The seller says that this car has been in a garage for a handful of years now. They don’t say if it runs or drives, but it does seem like that it can because they say the tags need to be updated. Although they say to do that, it will cost them around $800, so who knows if they will or not. This car seems like it is an amazing car for the price. There could be a few surprises in person and you will absolutely want to go see it in person before buying I would think. But, it might depend on what your goal is. If you are just going to tear it apart, it might be a great buy.

Ain’t that the truth. Every slant 6 I owned was left over after the car rusted away around it. Last one was like this Dart. Came out of work one night and back of the car looked low on the driver side. Figured I had a flat and just went back to the trunk and put the key in. When I turned the key, the trunk lid jumped up and just grazed my chin. Seems the box holding the leaf spring had rusted and gave way, thus the end of the leaf spring was resting on the underside of the lid.Just missed getting about an 800 pound uppercut.

It’s actually $10, but it’s a one-time fee, not yearly so no reason not to do that.
Pretty car. It is missing the breather hose from the oil filler and the air filter. Also,not stock wheels by any stretch of the imagination. Although I like them a lot! Someone has added dual exhaust with Flowmasters and the driver’s side muffler looks too close to the floor. The horn button appears to be falling off . But with 1 day and a few hours left. The $4,000 bid looks to be a very reasonable price! I am tempted!
They’re just trim rings on the stock wheels with the small covers. I like it. To see the quarter panels rust free is amazing. Seats are weird but oh well…nice car.
My parents bought a ’74 Scamp brand new just the uglier green compared to this one. Like this one but on the wrong coast. But this would be fun driving home on Rt66.

The hub caps are from a 69′ and the beauty rings may be off a rally wheel. Never seen them with a hub cap option, but possible, could be. Usually the wheels are paint body color with the hub cap option. Not totally sure, but I believe the rims were painted black if had the full hub cap option or no hub cap at all as on the HP 440’s,413 Ramchargers and Superstocks, 426 Max wedge or 426 Hemi’s. I’m sure the price will go up on this Dart. Nice Car. Being a small block already. with all the options, AC, power steering, power disc brakes, up graded wipers and a complete engine department, except for the valve covers. $ 8,000.00
This is a high line Dart, so I’m sure it had full wheel covers, as most did. Too bad about the hood pins , but I could live with it- these cars with 318s can really scoot !
Black rims were standard in 1972 as were the hub caps. I know as I owned a 1972 Dart (base) sedan, dark green, black rims and hubcaps. Had one option – Torqueflite. Put a Chryco radio in it along with the Custom instrument panel trim. The wood trim was a little tacky but better than all that bare dark green paint.
If you wanted rims painted the body colour you checked off box W55.
Trim rings with hub caps was option W12. Wheel covers were W11 or W13.
Those seats were optional on the Swinger and Scamp – either cloth and vinyl or all vinyl. The green is not quite right. Does not match the painted green trim.

Bill W, you may be right on your broad cast sheet #’s with the wheels and caps, but those caps are wrong and I agree with bone, that it probably came with full wheel covers. I have a 69′ & 70′ 340 swingers and the 70′ wheels were black but came with full wheel covers and the 69′ was painted body color with the caps as in the photo. The 70′ and up had similar looking caps, without the red circle in the center. Around 72′ or 73′ they were not stainless steel, but aluminum. The radios did not say Chrysler, but I believe “Dart Transistor”or Dart and something else.
Glenn, you are incorrect about the wheels. Yes, there are trim rings. But these wheels are way wider and have more negative off-set than stock wheels. I know, not only have I been in and out of the tire & wheel business most of my life. But I have had several of these Chrysler (Darts, Valiants and Barracudas) cars in my lifetime. And I was always on the look out for “proper” sized wheels.
No , I would never want a six.
These are plenty fast with a tuned up 318.
You would think that if this Dart was running, the seller would have moved the car outdoors to take better pictures. Bubbling under the vinyl top can be seen at the bottom of one C pillar so you can count on rust repair and a new vinyl top. The front seat upholstery and carpet will need to be replaced as well as that ugly steering wheel. The pictures aren’t great and the seller’s description is lacking in detail so potential bidders may want to chat with the seller before placing a bid. It’s a well-optioned car so it has that going for it.
The hood pins give it 50 more horsepower I’m told😀

I noticed in the eBay pictures it shows it both headed in and backed into the garage. Seems like it would be a lot of trouble to go to if it didn’t run.
Slant 6 or 318 gave the same mileage.

You can tell it’s fast: one pic shows the speedo needle around 60 mph while parked in the garage.
