This 911 listed here on craigslist in Babylon, New York is said to be rust free, runs and drives and priced at $15,000. The tan leather interior is said to be “OK”, but as you can see it sure needs paint. Porsche patina is not so attractive. It’s a 5 speed car. There’s no word on where this was found or how long it was sitting.
The seller only provides 2 pictures. They say no accident damage, but doesn’t the fit of the hood seem a bit off? What do you think is the real story on this 911? What do you think you’d find if you went to lo0k at this in person?
Gone!
This is a good buy. Second year for the completely rust proof body. Bob
Second year for the galvanized body? I was under the impression that began in 1978 model year. Am I wrong?
The 911 started getting the lower part of the body galvanized in 1975 for the 1976 M.Y. cars. The 1978 M.Y. cars were the first to have the whole body galvanized, and that has continued to the current models.
Thanks. That clears it up.
Looks like it sold already. These days anything with 911 on it gets snapped up at ludicrous prices.
It was not that long ago, a 911 like this would be well under 10k. I bought a pretty nice 74 911 Targa in 2001 for 5000 and sold it to a guy who begged me to buy it for 8500 in 2004. I thought I was making out good. I should have kept it.
Very, very gone! I was starting to get excited when I saw it but then went to the deleted link. %^(
I had heard 77 was the first year of galvanizing. I sold a 1982 911 SC for $8500 back in late 90s, wild how much they have gone up, not surprised this one went quick.
My sob story is the beautiful 1969 911E coupe I bought in 1980 for $8500 and sold to former factory racer Joe Buzzetta for $12,000 in 1995. That car is probably worth close to $100,000 now.
Makes my heart hurt. I sold my shiny, drive anywhere, 79 SC at the eve of that wretched bubble for $7000. This was like two years ago and everyone was turning their noses up at Targas and these 74-77 cars weren’t worth squat. I’d buff this out and find a decent 3.0 or 3.2. Oh wait, I’m out of the Porsche game. It was fun when there were bargains. I’m not sleazy and cut throat enough now.
Good buy, looks like a restorable car with room on the finished end if you do a lot of the work yourself. Went fast for a reason try finding good 911 projects for cheap, hit me up when you do!
