1994 Chevrolet Impala SS With 5,100 Genuine Miles!

With a few notable exceptions, concept cars rarely find their way into series production. However, Chevrolet broke the mold in 1994 when the Impala SS landed on showroom floors. Unveiled as a concept at the 1992 Detroit Motor Show, the positive response that it garnered prompted the company to add the SS to its model lineup two years later. This Impala is a first-year example that is simply stunning. Its cause is helped by the fact that it has only clocked 5,100 miles, giving it little opportunity to accumulate the imperfections that often develop with age and regular use. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Mitchell G. for spotting the SS listed here at Low Miles No Miles in Butler, Pennsylvania. You could drive it home once you have handed over $37,500 to the seller.

Buyers ordering a 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS could order their new purchase in any color, as long as it was Code 41 Black. The company kept ornamentation to a minimum, with the “Impala SS” decals on each rear quarter panel large, but subtle. It allowed the 17″ brushed aluminum wheels to make a bold visual statement, but it was a lack of wheel availability that limited the Impala’s production total during the first year. Faulting this car’s appearance is seemingly impossible, with the paint holding a depth of color and shine that perfectly reflects its surroundings, and the panels as straight as an arrow. I see no evidence of rust, although this is rarely a problem with these classics. The wheels appear flawless, and the glass is clear. Combine those factors, and this Impala has no trouble making a positive first impression.

Chevrolet developed the Impala SS as a “total” package, with all cars featuring identical mechanical specifications. It starts at the front, with the engine bay housing a slightly detuned version of the same 5.7-liter LT1 V8 as found in the Corvette. It feeds 260hp and 330 ft/lbs of torque to a 3.08 limited-slip rear end via a four-speed 4L60-E automatic transmission. Power steering was standard equipment, as were power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock. The suspension was tuned for a perfect blend of comfort and handling, with Chevrolet choosing to equip the SS with high-end De Carbon shocks. That package guaranteed excellent performance in all circumstances, with the Impala SS enjoying a reputation as an accomplished open-road cruiser. The seller confirms that this one-owner classic remains unmolested and has been properly maintained throughout its life. They don’t mention evidence verifying the odometer reading of 5,100 miles, although the Service Records may support that figure. It appears that all the buyer needs to do is slip behind the wheel, twist the key, and drive off into the sunset.

Air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power seats, power mirrors, cruise control, leather trim, a tilt wheel, and a couple of airbags. It is fair to say that this Impala’s interior is nicely equipped. When you add the optional premium AM/FM radio and CD player to the mix, it definitely caters to those seeking a luxurious motoring experience. This is another aspect of the Impala that seems to defy criticism. There is no visible wear, signs of abuse, or evidence of UV damage. Most importantly, there are no aftermarket additions, which is always a consideration for those contemplating the long-term investment potential. The owner describes the condition as “pristine,” and the listing images seem to support their belief.

This 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS is a stunning vehicle, and there won’t be many examples prowling our roads with a lower odometer reading. It has no apparent needs and remains an unmolested survivor. That brings us to the subject of the seller’s price and whether their figure is justified. That is a surprisingly difficult call to make, because the 1994 Impala SS has experienced a rollercoaster ride in the classic market over the past year. However, it is worth noting that 1994 marked the lowest production total with only 6,303 cars rolling off the line. That makes it rare from a “big-picture” perspective when the 1995 and 1996 tallies headed into healthy five-digit territory. The price isn’t unprecedented, and I believe that it will find a new home if the seller exercises patience. Does this classic’s combination of luxury and performance tempt you to pursue it further?

I remember the guys that bought these new were usually 50-60 years old. They seemed proud of them and didn’t abuse them. It wouldn’t surprise me if these start coming up for sale in this condition regularly as those guys (sadly) exit the hobby.

Agree with hairyolds 68 the column shift always looked kind of awkward with the buckets and console. GLWTS

I own a 94 and they will never command the pricing of the 96s. The 96 have the console shift and more importantly the analog dashboard. The later years also had a sunroof option and 2 other colors besides black. 94s also have the side mirrors located in a goofy location vs the 95/96. Finally the 95/96 have a much better C pillar. The 94’s have an add on panel with the Impala logo on it. The 95/96 have that panel integrated into the body. I love my 94 but people want the small changes the other years have.
