If you are in the market for a cool looking classic that’s fun to drive, a C3 Corvette may be the ticket. This generation of Vette wasn’t the most powerful ever built, but it’s among the best looking and most affordable. This particular example is only showing 19,000 miles on the odometer and may be worth some serious consideration. It’s located in Des Plaines, Illinois and is listed here on eBay.
This car is claimed to have lived with the same family since new. They have the window sticker and a bunch of the original pamphlets. The interior is normally one of the first areas to show wear and tear on these cars, but this one looks very good inside. The leather seats appear to be supple and the original radio is still in the dash!
There were two engine options available in the late seventies and luckily this one is fitted with the better of the two. The L-82 used better internals and produced a little more power. Even more power could be released though by installing a pair of headers and dual exhaust. A 4-speed would have made things better, but your left leg may thank you for that automatic between stoplights…
1978 was the Corvette’s 25th birthday so Chevrolet celebrated by releasing a silver anniversary model. The package added two-tone silver paint and special badges as seen here. This was also the first year for the curved back widow. All in all, this appears to be a very nice car and, with some maintenance, it should provide the next owner with years of pleasurable motoring!
$12,000 car. (Maybe)
Nice looking but it will never be worth a lot of $$ IMO. Too many people bought the year and stored for expected future windfalls. Face it, you see a lot of low mileage 25th anniv cars.
If you want it, buy it and drive it but IMO don’t buy it as an investment. I don’t think it gather a lot of $$ in the future.
Agreed. Too many folks thought these would be bring $$ down the road, but that simply hasn’t happened. This appears to be a pretty nice car, but it’s tough to tell from the photos about the trim and front end paint, and this body style and options don’t get a lot of respect for this year C3.
If I was in the market for one, it wouldn’t be with a silver interior and automatic, however.
Absolutely! Drive it, enjoy it, just don’t think of it as an investment .
Technically, all the ’78’s got the silver anniversary badge, even the pace car versions… this one was just a color option for the outside and interior.
Thanks for clarifying that Rick.
All 78’s got a 25th Anniversary nose and gas door emblem, but this car has the actual 25th Anniversary Package.
When the RPO BZ2 25th Anniversary package was ordered, a special silver metallic over charcoal gray metallic paint treatment was applied. Besides the two-tone paint, BZ2 also included the aluminum wheels, painted sport mirrors, fender and mirror pinstripes, and gray accent stripe on the hood. The Silver Anniversary package was available with the oyster interior that this car has, as well as black, red, saffron, and dark blue interiors, all in either leather or cloth.
There is nothing particularly rare about 78 Silver Anniversary Corvettes. Of the 46,000 78’s built, 15,200 were Silver Anniversary’s.
I must admit ALL Corvettes are d*mn good looking cars.
Have you seen the new mid-engine car coming out?
You won’t be able to say that then.
Whether current good looking or not is certainly a personal preference, I personally like the looks of the pictures I’ve seen of a new mid-engine one. The best part about it however is that performance wise, particularly in handling, it will blow away every Corvette ever built.
Mark
Have you seen the proposed price on the C8? Last numbers I saw speculated twice the price of a 2019 ZR1!
I drive an 86 for 3 big reasons (to me at least): First is I don’t need a wall full of test equipment to tell me I ran out of gas, and Second is it’s still one I can work on myself at least part of the time. Third is I can afford it without going into debt for 7-10 years. I can physically touch a part and see if it’s right or not. I’m not anti-computers, I just like to work on my cars and without an EE degree and that wall of test equipment, I can’t do it on the newest ones.
Have you seen an actual car or some car magazine’s idea of what it might look like? I have been seeing the “Next Corvette” for 50 years now on magazine covers and nobody has come close yet.
The 4 rotor mid engine corvette from ’73 looks a LOT better than both of those.
I’ve seen it in person. Breathtaking. Excellent visibility in all directions …

What took Chevy so long?
I’ve already seen the back of the new mid engine one.
The new Corvette doesn’t look like a Corvette to me.
It looks like every Ferrari or Lamborghini out there.
Nothing special anymore.
Miguel, ‘It looks like every Ferrari or Lamborghini. Nothing special anymore.’ They are special cars. Maybe in Mexico you see a Ferrari or Lamborghini everyday. Nothing special anymore? Really? Happy to see the new stuff.
Didn’t the anniversary have a rear fin. Not the integrated bumper fin of the ’80, but an add on.
The front and rear spoilers were part of the two-tone black over silver 78 Indy Pace Car package, not the 78 Silver Anniversary package. For 1979, the “Pace Car” spoilers were made available as an option on any Corvette.
Here is a C8 on the hook! https://www.corvetteonline.com/news/c8-corvette-gets-towed-gas-station/
It’s close to what it’s worth now at just over 10000.00 I wouldn’t go north of 13000.00 for it.
I noticed that it has one eye open and one eye closed! I hope that you can still get the switch to fix that problem! I bought a little dodge to have a little fun in and the lights won’t open and close on their own! I tried to find the part on rock auto, but it is crossing me over to a switch for a, I think that it was a sabaru! If anyone else is smarter than I please help me figure it out?
Lamborghini or Ferrari in Mexico? Dammit I am going to do a reverse illegal border crossing and go there! Lol, I think that I would be very disappointed and very disliked if I did! Just dreaming! :-)
Yes there are Lamborghini and Ferraris in Mexico.
It is stupid to buy them here because we don’t have the roads nor the gasoline to power them, but people do.
Here are the Ferraris for sale in Mexico, well some of them
https://listado.mercadolibre.com.mx/ferrari#D%5BA:ferrari%5D
And here are the Lambos
https://autos.mercadolibre.com.mx/lamborghini#D%5BA:lamborghini,OC:MLM1744%5D
I would assume you can take any of them across the border but I am not sure it would be financially feasible.
Now a new one might be cheaper here as they do deal on the price to get one out the door.
Leave your kids home if you go.
Hell, I probably have kids there that I don’t even know about! LOL, many wild times south of Laredo alot of good times too! Oh yeah McAllen too! :-)

Not saying they are being untruthful but those seats have a lot of cracking and wear marks… and that color combo is… underwhelming… not for me but somebody got it.
