19k Original Miles: 2003 Ford Mustang GT

It is easy to dismiss post-2000 cars, questioning whether they deserve the title of classics. However, when over two decades have elapsed since our feature car rolled off the line and values are climbing, it is fair to say that this 2003 Ford Mustang GT falls into that category. Its presentation is hard to fault, which is to be expected since it only has 19,000 genuine miles showing on its odometer. The time has come for it to find a new home, with the seller listing the GT here on eBay in Newfield, New Jersey. They set their BIN at $19,900 with the option to make an offer.

The successful Fox-Body Mustang was always going to be a tough act to follow. The Mustang II didn’t fare well as the sequel to the First Generation, but the Fourth Generation demonstrated that this was a mere blip on the badge’s radar. A 1999 update further improved its fortunes, and our 2003 example rolled off the line as the company was finalizing the finer details for its replacement. The first owner ordered this GT in stunning Redfire, which was one of the thirteen shades available on that year’s color palette. The car presents superbly, with no evidence of significant problems. The seller supplies a comprehensive image gallery, confirming that this classic’s underside is as impressive as its exterior. Bright trim is restricted to the chrome wheels that sparkle nicely. The glass is crystal clear, with no evidence of chips or other problems.

There are few trim materials more classy than Charcoal leather, which is what we find when we open this Mustang’s doors. Once again, there appears to be little warranting criticism. There is no edge wear on the front seats, and the back seat appears to have never seen occupants. The carpet condition is consistent with the claimed odometer reading, and there is no cracked or broken plastic. The 2003 GT offered excellent performance while cocooning its occupants in safety and comfort. This beauty features dual airbags, air conditioning, power operation for the windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, and a premium stereo with a six-disc CD stacker.

One of the most profound changes made by Ford to the Fourth Generation Mustang occurred in 1996 when the company finally pensioned off its 5.0-liter V8 in favor of its new 4.6-liter “Modular” powerplant. The new motor was physically smaller, lighter, more sophisticated, and more efficient than the engine it replaced. It was also easier to extract extra power, something that was key when the V8 found its way under the hood of a performance model like the Mustang GT. This car’s 4.6 delivers 260hp and 302 ft/lbs of torque, which feeds to the road via a four-speed automatic transmission. The power and torque figures may not sound startling, but they allow this classic to cover the ¼-mile in 14.4 seconds on the way to 152mph. However, this car might do slightly better, courtesy of improved breathing. Someone has added a cold air intake and a Cat-back Magnaflow dual exhaust. The seller doesn’t mention supporting evidence for the claimed odometer reading of 19,000 miles, but since it has always been meticulously maintained, the Service Records may provide that proof. This GT is a turnkey proposition that is ready to provide motoring fun to its new owner.

The 2003 Mustang GT bucked the trend in 2024, with values climbing while many of its contemporaries fell victim to an overall market fall. The seller’s BIN looks competitive compared to recent successful sales, especially considering this car’s odometer reading. Of course, their willingness to entertain offers could see someone drive this gem away for a lower figure. It hasn’t been on the market long, and I won’t be surprised if it finds a new home fairly quickly. Are you tempted to make it yours?

That’s a nice one. Looks and performance in one package.

I have s 2003 in Granite Mist with 6400 miles. Mine is paired with the 5 speed making it as little more fun to drive than the automatic when my knees are cooperating.

Not a big fan of the New Edge styling, but the 4.6 makes some nice music. I’d be curious to see what this goes for.

Very nice example, but it’s an auto tranny model, not the desired 5 speed. $12-14k would be my speculative max on this one. If it was a convertible and a 5 speed, then the $19k asking might warrant a sale. Good luck on the sale, it’s still a great looking model.

Sure it’s low miles and in great shape, but $20k for a New Edge slushbox is a hard no. I’ve seen similar mileage Bullitts go for less.

I had a 2000 model it was a nice car my only complaint that didn’t bother me when I got it but over time started to was my tall frame sitting in the driver’s seat if I put my hand on my head it would rub the headliner and for me and my lead foot I could only picture what would happen when I rolled it for taking a corner to fast so I sold it after about a year nd purchased a 96 crown vic

Very true – they definitely aren’t comfortable (I’m 6’3″), and compared to modern cars the seat design is plain scary if you’re ever rear-ended (the headrest is basically useless). But what can I say, I really like the New Edge styling, it has aged well in my opinion.

Beautiful car, would complement my 02 nicely but that price? Wow. These aren’t collector cars, just nice dailys that get some compliments at Cars & Coffees. And that auto tranny really kills it. For this money you can buy a pretty nice S550 GT, definitely an Ecoboost or V6 (both of which are more powerful and fuel efficient) and have a much better car. Maybe $10-$12k in this nice condition if it was a manual, but not this one no matter how pretty it looks.

Actually, its been for sale for months at South Jersey Classics in Newfield NJ… for whatever reason, its not garnering much interest locally even though it looks brand new.

My bad. I missed the photos at the bottom of the eBay ad. Looked only at the ones at the top of the listing.

Why no photos of the under carriage? Any rust issues?

Plenty of undercarriage shots in the ebay listing…

A lot of wrinkles in the driver seat leather for 19k miles. I have an old Lexus with 137k on it and that’s what my seat looks like.

Nice example. The problem with it is the engine. They’re dogs. Even more so with the juice tranny. The only cure is a Vortech S/C which adds 125 hp and helps it live up to its hot looks.
