2-For-1 Deal: 1968 & 1969 AMC Javelins

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a 2-for-1 deal, and that’s the story with this pair of AMC Javelins. I have to send a big thanks to Barn Finder AMXBrian for spotting the package deal for us. The Javelins are located in Smithfield, Rhode Island, and are listed for sale here on Craigslist. You can haul them home by simply handing over $4,000.

The Hunter Green 1969 model shows the most promise as a potential project car. Visible rust is not terribly extensive, but it isn’t clear how healthy the floors and frame are. The passenger side front fender has suffered some accident damage, but it is hard to tell whether this has had any impact under the skin. It appears to be largely complete, both inside and out. We don’t get any detailed engine photos, but the owner says that it is fitted with a 280hp, 343ci V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission. I can also see that it was optioned with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.

The 1968 Javelin is finished in Frost White, and once again, it is a car that appears to be largely complete. This one seems to have a bit more visible rust than the ’69 model, but it still doesn’t appear to be that bad. The interior is partially dismantled, so there could be a few pieces missing. The worst-case scenario is that it could serve as a parts car. As with the previous car, there are no engine photos. However, the owner states that this one is fitted with a 290ci V8 and an automatic transmission.

For the AMC enthusiast, this looks like an interesting package. Just how viable either of these cars is as a restoration project would best be determined by personal inspection. I’ve included a good array of photos below so that you can get an insight into vehicle condition. It will be interesting to see whether we have any readers who are willing to take these on.

The Javelin is an underrated muscle car, but I have to admit I prefer the last ones with the flared fenders. The earlier spears are a bit slab sided while the later cars are just so appealing with those curves.

HMMMM, a dirt floor open carport in New England and the windows are open – What the dampness doesn’t ruin the mice and insects will . I would say both are parts cars !
