We’re no strangers to low-mile classics at Barn Finds, and this 1991 Pontiac Firebird Formula joins that list. Its presentation is superb, unsurprising given it has genuine 21,000 miles on its odometer. It isn’t the most potent beast on the planet. However, it should provide its new owner with a relaxed motoring experience. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Curvette for spotting the Firebird listed here on eBay in De Witt, Iowa. Bidding sits below the reserve at $8,988, but there is a BIN option of $19,997 for those wishing to bypass the auction process.

The 1991 model year brought one of the most significant styling changes during the Third Generation Firebird’s production life. The car grew quite a pronounced, sharp nose, which Pontiac based on the Banshee IV show car. Interestingly, that styling feature would also appear on the Fourth Generation Firebird throughout its production life. The first owner ordered this Formula in Code 81 Bright Red, and its presentation is everything you would rightly expect from a car with 21,000 documented miles on the clock. There are no cosmetic panels of paint imperfections, and no evidence of rust. The plastic shows no signs of deterioration and has done an admirable job of resisting fading or discoloration. The glass is clear, and the 16″ alloy wheels appear perfect.

Okay, this Firebird isn’t going to be a jet, but at least its exhaust emits a V8 rumble. The 305ci powerplant produces a factory-quoted 170hp, which feeds to the road via a four-speed automatic transmission. Power steering and power brakes are also part of the package, ensuring that even people of slight build should have no trouble maneuvering this classic. The engine bay is immaculate, further supporting the seller’s confirmed mileage claim. The seller supplies this YouTube video in their listing. It provides a comprehensive walkaround, allowing us to hear the V8 in action. The motor sounds as sweet as a nut, confirming that this Pontiac is a turnkey proposition.

The first owner equipped this Firebird’s interior with a driver’s airbag, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a remote hatch release, a rear defogger, cruise control, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player. Those items are a recipe for excellent comfort, and the same word could be used to describe the interior condition. The Black cloth seat covers are free from wear, as is the carpet and the remaining upholstered surfaces. The dash and pad are perfect; there are no crumbling plastic pieces or aftermarket additions.

This 1991 Pontiac Firebird Formula presents beautifully, and it appears that nothing deserves criticism. Therefore, when taken at face value, the seller’s BIN looks quite realistic. The listing statistics tend to support this, and with ten bids submitted, it appears that people want a slice of the Pontiac pie. However, this Firebird demonstrates why it is worth undertaking research before committing your cash to a classic purchase. In compiling this story, I discovered a previous auction for this Firebird that was successful. The car changed hands in September 2025 for $9,150. It appears that the winning bidder was this seller, and if that is the case, that small piece of information could be a gold nugget if you intend to negotiate on a potential purchase. It’s certainly worth thinking about.
