22,085 Mile IROC: 1986 Chevy Camaro Z28

This 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 is a low-mileage survivor in highly original condition. Mileage is reportedly just 22,085, and the color combination of white with black hood inserts over a red cloth interior is stunning. While it is equipped with an automatic transmission – a manual would put this one over the top for me – it’s hard to resist the Camaro’s impeccable condition. Find it here on eBay with bidding at $14,100 and no reserve.

The Camaro also features some period-correct details, like the louvers across the rear three panes of glass. The body is in excellent shape with no signs of damage, and the IROC graphics still present as new. Wheels are original and in great shape, and the seller notes it was a one-owner car prior to him putting it on the market. He holds a clean title for the Camaro, which is located in Georgia.

The 5.0 Liter TPI 305 CID V8 is paired with a 700R4 4-speed transmission. This Camaro generation has been appreciating nicely as of late, another case of a car produced in large quantities that seemingly everyone abused. While plenty were put away as time capsules, cars like this trickle out far more slowly than the beaters that populate classifieds websites everywhere.

My favorite detail is the cardinal red interior, with matching door panels and carpeting. The interiors of this generation of GM products are pretty awful, with low-rent materials and no real effort put into the design. So when cars like this pop up with cockpits featuring deep and robust colors, it helps improve an otherwise uninspiring environment. Examples like these command top dollar, so high teens seems likely.

I once read a comment somewhere that the front end view of these reminded them of a Star Wars storm trooper, and that is exactly what I thought of from the lead photo! An exceptionally nice one, and as Jeff has said the color combo really pops! GLWTS :-)

I know a guy that had an identical Z28, until the roof of the green house that it was in, collapsed from snow! The replacement he bought wasn’t near as nice, at least in my opinion.

I sold these at Midway Chevrolet in 85-86. Pretty sure they were all automatics, the only 5 speed in a Camaro in 86 was with the V6. Could be wrong. Either version was fun to drive, when you consider the competition.

Back in the day a good friend of mine had one of these..he had it repainted chrome yellow for some reason and swapped in a sb 383 for obvious reasons…man we had fun with that car and this one is just as nice. Funny how I remember things from 30 or 40 years ago and can’t remember what happened yesterday lol

Does GLWTS mean good luck with sale? I Googled the initials and that’s the closest I could come up with. I hadn’t seen it before so I asked my teenage sons and they weren’t familiar with it either. Or Guys Like Watery Tomato Soup? 😂

Sad story ahead: In 1986,a friend of mines father bought a car just like this one, same interior color, exterior color, even had the window louvers on it, for his wife, she passed away about 5 years later,he continued to drive the car until 1994,when he got with another woman and she took over driving it.She took excellent care of it,washed and detailed all the time, regular oil changes, until one day she left an oil change place who forgot to tighten the oil plug, needless to say it didn’t made the 35 mile journey home, just about 3 miles shy. She told him the news that evening, within a few days, off to the crusher it went.
