This 1965 Ford Mustang is well on its way to a quarter of a million miles. That’s because it’s had the same female owner all this time, who still takes it for a spin every couple of weeks. The paint and interior were redone over time, and the original 289 cubic inch V8 gave up the ghost during the odometer’s second time around and was replaced. Located in Newport Beach, California, this Rangoon Red pony is a driver-quality Flower Power leftover that’s available without reserve here on Bring A Trailer for $2,500 and counting.

The Mustang was one of the most successful new product launches of the decade – and perhaps of all time. The owner ordered the car new in late 1964 and it arrived weeks later in 1965 thanks to some labor issues at Ford. For the car’s first 11 years, it served as a daily driver where most of the amazing 234,000 miles were accumulated. Growing family needs produced the need for more versatile forms of transportation, so the Mustang found itself in the garage most of the time. But they never failed to take it out for a ride every few weeks.

Under the hood resides a 289 V8 that’s from the 1967 model year, refreshed prior to its installation. That would explain the blue paint on the motor rather than period-correct gold. We assume the C4 automatic transmission has been rebuilt at least once over six decades. A plethora of documentation has survived that may answer most of the questions a buyer might have.

The red paint was redone in 1992 but isn’t perfect, as some vandals came along not long after. The carpeting and upholstery were redone around the same time. The radio has been replaced with one that includes a tape player (now non-op) without screwing up the dash. The power steering pump will need some attention, and the front suspension is ready for a makeover. The gas gauge no longer reminds you that you need to make a pit stop. Just do a bit of mechanical work and enjoy the rest of the Ford the way it is. What a cool tip, “Curvette”!
