23k Original Miles: 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado

We’ve recently seen some impressive low-mile classics crossing our desks at Barn Finds, and this 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado continues that trend. Its presentation is far above average, suggesting that it has been cherished by the family who have been its custodians since Day One. The odometer shows a mere 23,000 genuine miles, meaning that it should offer the buyer years of faithful service. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Curvette for spotting the Cadillac listed here on eBay in North Chicago, Illinois. The seller set their BIN at $41,500 with the option to make an offer.

The seller supplies insight into this Cadillac’s history. It rolled off the showroom floor of a dealership located in Fayetteville, West Virginia, on March 15th, 1969. It remained in the same family’s care until recently, when the seller purchased it. The overall presentation is first-rate. The original San Mateo Red paint shines beautifully, with close-up shots revealing no flaws beyond the occasional minor chip. The Flax vinyl top is in as-new condition, and the comprehensive range of underside shots confirms that this Caddy is rust-free. The trim and glass are exceptional, and the narrow whitewalls add the ideal finishing touch to this prestige classic.

Cadillac introduced the 472ci V8 in 1968 as a replacement for the 429ci motor. That powerplant continued into 1969, producing a very impressive 375hp and 525 ft/lbs of torque. A three-speed automatic transmission tackles shifting duties, while power steering and power brakes were standard equipment. The seller doesn’t mention evidence verifying the car’s odometer reading. However, its ownership history may mean that there are service records that may quell any lingering doubts. Given the wide range of included paperwork, I believe this could be possible. Otherwise, this Caddy is a turnkey proposition with no mechanical needs or shortcomings. The seller fires up the 472 in this YouTube video, and it sounds as smooth as silk.

This Cadillac isn’t lavishly equipped by modern standards, but it would have felt pretty special in 1969. The first owner ordered the car with climate-controlled air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a tilt wheel, a rear defogger, and a remote driver’s mirror. The original family added an AM/FM radio/cassette player with a graphic equalizer, supplied by the fine folks at Lear Jet Stereo. The car’s Flax leather trim is free from wear, with both it and the relatively pale carpet showing no evidence of stains or severe marks. The dash is spotless, and the back seat doesn’t appear to have seen many occupants.

This 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado is a stunning classic, carrying the hallmarks of a car that has led a sheltered life. It appears to need nothing and should provide years of luxurious motoring pleasure. That brings us to the subject of the BIN figure and whether it is justified. Answering that question with the supplied information is almost impossible, since the seller doesn’t indicate whether the odometer reading is documented. The vehicle’s condition makes it plausible, but that hardly constitutes iron-clad evidence when a car is priced at the top end of the market. It will be fascinating to gauge your opinion on the subject.

When I was 28 I purchased a nice green/white leather 1970 in 1978, a local car in Santa Rosa, CA for $800. What an incredible car, so damn powerful and luxurious. Drove it in the snow in Tahoe w/o chains, round trip to Denver cruising at 90mph through NV. I would buy this one but I have no room for such a large car. You get what you pay for and this is the best example that I’ve seen over the past 15 years. I’ve owned a lot of cars but this was a cut above.

Documentation is everything. Very nice, but considering the asking price, I’d want to see something verifying the mileage first.

Agreed, it’s either the best example around or the best fake around.

Beautiful! Nothing like Cadillac today. I would do a double take if I saw this one go down the street!

Beautiful car! I have a 1970 Eldorado with the exact color scheme except my dash is black. Have had for 26 years and has never let me down or stuck in the snow. It was advertised to get 7.1 mpg, but I never got better than 5 mpg.
