24k Mile Survivor! 1970 Ford Mustang 302

When it comes to the world of vintage automobiles, the term “survivor” is often overused and can be objective or subjective, depending on how one looks at it.  Here at Barn Finds, we try to be careful that a car meets certain criteria before we deem it a survivor, such as original paint, original upholstery, and no restoration work performed.  This 1970 Ford Mustang seems to be a poster child for a survivor, and while it’s not perfect it is an original example that has a claimed 24,000 miles.  Located in Lauderdale, Florida, it can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $17,000, so it can be yours today without the hassles of an auction.

The seller of this Mustang describes it as being in original, never restored condition.  He says it’s a great original solid car that can be driven every day with a little inspection or a good restoration candidate, due to its base condition and the fact that there have been no modifications.  The story goes that the car was stored for many years in California and not driven, but it now has a cleaned-out fuel tank plus a new set of tires and it is currently running and driving.  The body is not without some flaws, and there are small rust holes on the doors and some surface rust here and there.

The Mustang is equipped with its original 302 cubic inch V8 and an automatic transmission.  The seller includes a short video of the car driving and being started, and the 302 does fire right up and seems to be running well.  You’ll especially enjoy some of the music in the video if you’re a fan of the band nicknamed the “Toxic Twins”.  It wouldn’t take a lot to detail the engine compartment if the next owner chooses to do so, but personally I kind of like the unrestored look.  The car has power disc brakes, power steering, and a working A/C compressor that is in need of revision.

Step inside and you’ll find a nicely preserved interior, with the Philco radio still intact and a dash looking quite a bit younger than its age.  The seats, door panels, and pedals are looking good, although there are some cracks in the steering wheel and the column is showing some wear.  What are your thoughts on this 1970 Ford Mustang?  Is $17,000 a reasonable price for what you’re getting here?

Hell Ya. This looks like a lot of fun in the making. Pull the 302 and build it then let the fun begin. Might have to check this one out It’s in the same state.

Yup…you could do some mad magic with a 302 and no one would be any wiser…I’m thinking pull the original and put it in storage, and find a modern block with aluminum heads (maybe a 347), and paint it all Ford Blue.

This is the EXACT car that I imagine when I hear the classic song; “Do You Know the Way to San Jose”, sung by Dionne Warwick…
LA is a great big freeway
Put a hundred down and buy a car
In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star
Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas

The higher height, painted dog dishes need to find their way back to whatever mid 70s Ford truck they came from! Sorry can’t unsee it. If I was selling this, this detail would be addressed.

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are going to sue the owner for copyright infringement. They’ll drop the lawsuit in exchange for the ‘Stang. Then they’ll trade it for a few kilos of Peru’s finest blow.
