24k Original Miles: 1985 Chevrolet Scottsdale Stepside

Barn Finder Patrick S has had the radar tuned in and has spotted this 1985 Chevrolet Stepside for us, so thank you for that Patrick. The Stepside appears to be a vehicle that has been treated with care and respect, and the owner is in possession of the CarFax which verifies that it has only covered 24,000 miles. The Stepside is located in Cape Coral, Florida, and is listed for sale here on Craigslist.

The owner says that the Chevy is 90% original and that it is also totally rust-free. It certainly presents well, and it gives every indication that his additional claim that it has never seen a Winter may also be true. It really is hard to pick a fault with the appearance of this vehicle, with every exterior aspect of the car presenting so nicely.

Under the hood of the Chevy are a 305ci engine and a TH-700R4 automatic transmission. With only 24,000 miles on the clock, many people would consider that the Stepside is barely run in, and if history is any indication, there are many years of life left in this vehicle’s drive-train. Power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning are also featured on the vehicle, while tires, the exhaust, brakes, and the radiator have all been recently replaced.

As befits what is essentially a commercial vehicle, the mid-range Scottsdale Stepside has an interior constructed from fairly hard-wearing materials. Vinyl on the seats and door trims is the usual recipe, with rubber mats on the floor. Having said that, more often than not, it can be pretty easy to distinguish the difference between a loved vehicle, and one that has had a pretty hard life. The interior has that cared-for look, with no nasty scuffing or marks on any of the vinyl trim, while the painted surfaces also look to be in good condition.

With a mere 24,000 miles on the clock and an appearance that seems to be virtually faultless, you would expect this Chevrolet Stepside to command a premium price, and with the price set at $15,000 it is not a dirt cheap vehicle. However, given the popularity of these vehicles, and the overall condition of this one, that asking price seems to be justified.

Hmmm, the add on A/C drops the value in my opinion and I thought the Scottsdale package had carpet…maybe that was an additional option.
    Can’t beat the miles though.

No carpet with this trim level

I can’t speak for the ‘85, but I had a ‘90 Scottsdale in the early nineties that had rubber floors.
This article pretty much lost me after they said 305 automatic..

Man what a nice Truck, wish I was closer, I would go take a look and bring the check book.
J Liu, I don’t think that is a add on A/C but a new compressor, more than likely bringing it up to 134A. My Dad had a 85 Scottsdale and it had rubber floor mat Dad might more than likely ordered it that way he hated carpet in trucks.
I like the truck and the color.

Non A/C truck. This is a Vintage Air system. Needed for SWFl. They’re supposed to be excellent systems.

Love that truck. Right model, right miles. Wish I was in the market.

Very sharp truck, and the lowered ride height really suits the body style…Im not a fan of the “slammed” look, but taking it down slightly can still be done tastefully IMO. Given the mileage, condition and recent work the price isn’t too bad if you’re in a climate that supports daily driving.

The low mileage would only be important of the truck was unmolested.

With the suspension problems this has, I don’t think that applies here.

I guess it’s a fair point. The mileage is really more of a consideration related to the bolt in spindles, flip kit, and springs rather than drive-line, frame, body, floors, interior, etc… and every other component of the truck.

      Pebble beach this that’a’way….

What suspension problems? We, in SoCal, did a lot of these with quality parts from reputable suppliers, for dealers before delivery. No heated springs or cut frames. This looks like a spindle and rear drop. Sport Truck was the look.

No one cares about minor mods to a freakin truck !Pristine bodies like this are bringing teens money. The GM square bodies are hot right now,as the previous generation trucks are so pricey (double ,or more,of these). This is fair market value for a pretty truck.

    Nice truck.

They got the stance just right. For those that argue it’s a truck and shouldn’t be lowered, nobody will ever use this as a work truck. Based in its age and condition it will be used as a cruiser, it’s still functional for the occasional trip to Home Depot.
