The late “soft dash” Range Rover Classic LWB already offers an appealing mix of traditional styling, added rear-seat room, and a more modern interior. However, this 1995 example has something most American-market Range Rover Classics lack: a 300Tdi turbodiesel paired with an R380 5-speed manual transmission. It is located in Eugene, Oregon, and is being offered as a Barn Finds Exclusive with a clean title and a $15,000 asking price.
This Classic started life with a gas-powered V8, but the seller states that his business professionally completed the diesel and manual-transmission conversion. The installation looks reasonably factory in the photos, retaining the separate transfer-case lever and a largely stock-appearing engine compartment. More importantly, the seller has reportedly driven it approximately 2,000 miles during the past month, averaging 25 to 26 mpg in mixed use. He says it starts easily and runs, drives, and stops well enough that he would not hesitate to take it on a long trip.
Its Cornish Cream finish is said to be original, which is a huge plus with an old Range Rover. Not only does it reduce concerns about what might be hiding beneath a repaint, it also means you won’t have to spend big bucks getting it repainted. The body looks fairly straight overall, with factory alloy wheels, mudflaps, a sunroof, and the expected marks and blemishes from three decades of use. The seller identifies corrosion in the upper tailgate and offers a better replacement hatch at the asking price. Photos also show surface corrosion around a door pillar and parts of the radiator support. The seller describes the remaining body and frame as rust-free, although no underside photographs are provided.
The light tan leather interior is complete but used. Both front seats display some creasing and surface cracking, while the rear seat, carpets, door panels, and cargo area remain presentable. Some of the wood veneer is dry and cracked, but the seller reports that the soft dash itself has no cracks or curling. A recently installed Bluetooth/DVD/navigation stereo adds some modern convenience, and the lights, power windows, and central locking are all said to function. The air-conditioning compressor is not presently connected, although the seller says that work can be completed for an additional charge.
This Range Rover isn’t an over-polished show car, but that’s honestly part of the appeal. These trucks were built to go off road, not sit at car shows. The original paint, capable diesel drivetrain, 5-speed manual, and long wheelbase make it better suited to road trips and backcountry exploring than sitting under a cover in your garage. Address the tailgate, repair the air conditioning, and enjoy it as-is—or gradually improve the cosmetics without losing its honest character.
