327/4-Speed: 1962 Chevrolet Corvette

With the sun now making an appearance to let us know that the warm weather has arrived, now would seem to be the perfect time to consider parking a classic convertible in your driveway. This 1962 Corvette could be a hot candidate because after spending the past 15-years with its current owner, the time has come for it to head to a new home. Located in Amarillo, Texas, you will find the Corvette listed for sale here on eBay. The bidding has sailed past the reserve and currently sits at $44,990.

If potential buyers are searching for a pristine C1 Corvette that will turn heads wherever it goes, this car probably won’t suit them. However, if what they are seeking is an extremely tidy survivor that can attract attention regardless, then their search might be over with this Roman Red classic. It presents well for its age, and the seller says that while he hasn’t been able to confirm it conclusively, he believes that the paint might be original. If this is true, I wouldn’t be touching a thing. After all, they’re only original once. The paint holds a beautiful shine, and the imperfections in both it and the fiberglass are confined to a few pretty minor nicks and marks. There is nothing present that would justify outlaying thousands on a repaint unless the buyer is a perfectionist. The chrome is in excellent condition, and it suits this car’s survivor status. The windshield has a small chip, but the remaining glass is good. The soft-top has a few rub marks, which means that the buyer will need to choose whether or not to replace it. The owner also includes an original hardtop, meaning that the buyer can still enjoy their pride and joy on cooler days.

The Corvette is a numbers-matching classic, and it offers the promise of exhilarating performance. The original owner ordered it with the optional 300hp version of the 327ci V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission. Any car that can cover the ¼-mile in 14.6 seconds and wind its way to 129mph deserves our respect. The owner has recently replaced all of the fluids and filters, all of the hoses, the fuel lines, and the battery. He has also rebuilt the brakes and attended to numerous other small mechanical tasks. The upshot is that this classic runs and drives perfectly and is ready to hit the road for some top-down fun. The only issue that the owner identifies isn’t a genuine issue but comes under the heading of personal preference. The Corvette rolls on a set of 4 ply bias-ply tires because this helps to retain the vehicle’s original appearance. He believes that the car would drive better on more modern tires but has decided to leave that choice up to the buyer.

There’s nowhere to hide when you start looking at the condition of any convertible’s interior, and this Corvette is no exception. However, the buyer will have nothing to be ashamed of when they hit the streets in this baby. The Black trim is spotlessly clean and free from flaws. The dash and door trims are spotless, as is what is believed to be the original carpet. It is nice to see that there have been no aftermarket additions. The factory Wonderbar radio should help provide entertainment on the move if the occupants become sick of the song being sung by the small-block under the hood.

It is hard to believe when you reflect on the Corvette’s history that only a few short years before this car rolled off the line, Chevrolet contemplated killing the Corvette name completely. Initial sales were not what was expected, and the sales success of the Thunderbird served to exacerbate Chevrolet’s pain. However, the company dug in its heels and continued to improve its sports car incrementally. The 1962 model year marked the last for the C1 Corvette, and 14,531 buyers decided to park one in their driveway. This helped cement the badge’s future, and the Corvette has remained a constant presence in the American automotive market ever since. This Corvette is not a trailer queen, but it is a tidy survivor that can hold its head high in any company. It is a car that should make its next owner proud, but will that owner be you?

Delima. Have two classic two seat cars. The 1962 Corvette OR the 1970 Big Bad Orange AMX. Need only one. Sell the Corvette. My choice too! Good luck with the sale and enjoy that AMX in the garage!

Looks pretty good overall. I think though to look right it should have whitewall tires, which I think they came with .

Red 62 Vettes were one of my favorite cars as a child, but the black wall tires ruin it for me. If you have hubcaps, you need whitewalls. If you must have black tires, you need a set of good mags.

People will slam me, but a 62 Vette , 327 and 4 speed is the only Vette I have ever wanted. If the funds we’re available I would definitely look into this. Very nice car!
Good luck with the sale, someone will enjoy

No reason to slam you for liking this car! I can’t think of anything much cooler to cruise around in than that!

I saw one of this vintage near Seattle. Black and all chrome redone in gold plate. It was beautiful. I am no Corvette fan but I still want that car.

Took one look at this and ran to the corner for a lotto ticket for tonight. Am I the only one that thinks $50 G’s is a steal for this beauty?
