It sounds like the only dairy-related hauling the seller has done with this former dairy truck is hauling the kids out for ice cream. As an ice cream addict, I give a hearty salute to them for that. This 1974 International 200 “Bonus Load” pickup can be found listed here on craigslist in Longmont, Colorado, and they’re asking $6,500 or offer. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Rocco B. for the tip!
The 200 badge is missing on the driver’s side, along with having many dents and dings, so I’m not sure what the history of this truck is to have caused that much damage. You can see the dairy name and some characters painted on the sides. The International 200 (3/4-ton) pickup was a heavy-duty model above the, yes, 150 line, says Cap’n Obvious. Sunburst Yellow is a pretty cheery color for such a tough truck, and Hagerty is at $4,900 for a #4 fair-condition truck, as a general reference.
That’s one rugged bumper, wow! There’s a steel plate on the floor of the bed, but there’s a spare tire over it, so I can’t tell if there’s a trailer hitch on it. I’d bet there is, along with one on the rear bumper that you can see. This truck was made for hauling loads of dairy products for, I’m guessing, years and years and has lived a tough life but is said to have never let the current owners down. Most of us can’t say that about our new vehicles, sadly.
The seat looks a bit dirty, but is in nice condition otherwise. A cleaning would go a long way to making this interior shine almost like new again. The mileage is listed at just under 60,000 miles, and the worn bottom left corner of the clutch pedal suggests a lot of shifting over those 60k miles. Wait, shifting? Yes, this happy truck has a four-speed manual! The seller says this truck is “old and rusty”, but other than the dents on the driver’s side, it doesn’t look that bad to me.
It also has aftermarket air-conditioning and a CB radio, which turns on, but the seller says they’ve never hooked up the antenna to see if it works. There’s also no word as to if the AC works. Sadly, another “also” is that there is also no engine photo. I know, I know. It has International’s 345-cu.in. OHV V8 with 155 horsepower backed up by that four-speed manual sending power to the rear wheels. Would you restore this truck or maintain it and drive it as it looks now?
I like it. There’s something about old International pickups. They were a no nonsense approach to pickups back then. They were built to work. I’ve been in a couple over the years as a young passenger with family friends International pickups. I just remember them being tough old trucks. I like how this one is equipped with the 345 V8 and 4 speed. The dents, bumps, bruises, and that massive Dont you dare even think about rear ending me or else youll be sorry rear bumper just adds a lot of character. Including the dairy lettering on the doors. I usually like old vehicles no matter what they are to be shined up, but this one, I think I’d leave it alone. It has character. I can guarantee you you’d be the only one in a Home Depot parking lot. This just looks like a solid honest old truck. Thanks Scotty, I enjoyed it.
Thanks, Driveinstile! I think you talked me into keeping it original if I owned this great-looking, nicely-spec’d truck.
Scotty, the more I look at it, the more I like it!!!!
Perfectly said, Driveinstile. This would be the curmudgeon in the rocker on the porch of the small town hardware store, one you’d listen to closely when they did open up in a conversation and appreciate.
Is this the butter and egg man Aunt Bea said she was having an affair with?
Ding, ding, ding! I was wondering if anyone would catch the “Orville Hendricks” reference!
Just the type of truck I want, not a show truck just a cool summer old school truck I can use and drive plus being a 3/4 ton can tow fairly heavy if and when needed. 8 ft box !!! plus A/C for us old blisters with breathing issues.
Hahn Dairy in Calhan! I know that family! Ranch family prominent in Calhan, Kiowa, surrounding areas mostly in Elbert County se of Denver! The dairy was auctioned off about 4 or 5 years ago. Also had a fence company….
Wish I’d known about this truck (but probably good I didn’t….).
