350/4-Speed: 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

Some classics appear on the market, ticking almost every box an enthusiast could want as they contemplate a candidate to park in their garage. Such is the case with this 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It has avoided all of the changes and modifications often seen on vehicles of this type. It also has a known ownership history, the most desirable drivetrain combination offered in that model year, and has a genuine 39,000 miles on the clock. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Tony P for spotting a classic that needs nothing but a new home.

A known ownership history is often the first thing that potential buyers consider in their search for a classic to park in their garage. This Camaro ticks that box because the seller became its custodian in 2017 when they purchased it from the original owner. It had 37,000 miles on its odometer then and has only accumulated a further 2,000 miles since. The seller acknowledges that the first owner treated the car to a repaint in its original Dark Blue, although it is unclear whether this was part of a restoration or just to give the car a fresh appearance. The paint shines deeply, with no significant flaws or defects. The panels are as straight as an arrow, and there is no evidence or mention of rust. New stripes were applied during the repaint, and these remain crisp and clean. The glass is clear, and the wheels are free from flaws and physical damage. The first owner ordered this classic with a factory T-Top, which is the first of many options they selected to improve the ownership experience.

Lifting this Camaro’s hood reveals what many consider to be the most desirable drivetrain combination offered in 1980. The buyer receives a 350ci V8, a four-speed manual transmission, and power assistance for the steering and front disc brakes. The power and torque figures of 190hp and 280 ft/lbs look modest by modern standards but were par for the course during The Malaise Era. The seller claims this classic is mechanically original, and it appears they hold documentation supporting their mileage claim. The car has never been mechanically dismantled and comes with the original Title and Build Sheet. It runs and drives perfectly, raising the possibility that the buyer could fly in and drive this baby home.

I braced myself when examining the interior shots, expecting to find aftermarket additions or changes. However, the interior is as unmolested as the rest of the car, and it is nicely optioned. In addition to the T-Top, the buyer receives air conditioning, power windows, a rear defogger, and a factory AM/FM radio/cassette player. Those features don’t seem spectacular by modern standards, but they made this classic pretty special in 1980. It also carries the hallmarks of a vehicle that has been treated respectfully. There is no evidence of wear, abuse, or damage to the Dark Blue vinyl trim. The carpet looks excellent, the plastic is free from cracks, and there is no wheel wear. The overall condition is consistent with the mileage claim and should cause the buyer no shame at a show or a Cars & Coffee.

This 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a stunning turnkey classic that the seller listed here on Craigslist in Merrick, New York. Their price of $21,500 looks highly competitive in the current market, especially considering its history, options, and condition. It has only been on the market for around a day, and I suspect interested parties may have to act quickly to secure this classic. Are you tempted to give it a new home?

Looks clean. You might any to double check the mention of “air conditioning”, though, unless you mean the “2-55” type.

Good looking Z. Driven one exactly like this, the 4sp makes it. 3.08 gear ⚙️ was std equipment from the General.

I’d take this over green Monte featured here. Several things you can do to “wake these up!”

Looks nicely preserved from the top side. Exhaust pipes may not be stock, lots of surface rust on the master cylinder and other places under hood. A good look underneath would be recommended.

Definitely no A/C on this one. Author probably saw the “good condition” at the end of the Craig’s List ad and the brain took the word “condition” and added “air”.

I own a 1981 almost just like this. It is charcoal grey with the silver pinstripes. Just like this it is totally original, and has 23,000 original miles. I love that car to death, because it is the car that got me into the classic car world.

I have always loved these, had a 77 Trans Am TA 6.6 and my buddy had one of these in the sun fire orange with tan stripes and trim. He put a .411 rearend in that with a shift kit and it was darn quick red light to red light. There is a red with gold trim sitting in a driveway a couple miles from here and people say it’s sat there for over 30 years. I have a nice crate 350/350 hp engine that would sit right in there. I haven’t stopped and talked to the guy yet but contemplating doing so.

Black and blue must have been a unique combination. I don’t recall ever seeing another. The original owner was careful with the options but bought what they wanted most. Seems well cared for and would make a nice trip to your youth.
