Chevrolet replaced their Advance Design series of trucks in 1955. These would be called the Task Force Series and ran through 1959 (the GMC versions were the Blue-Chip Series). These vehicles would be more evolved than before, such as using a 12-volt electrical system instead of six. The seller’s 1959 Apache edition, the line’s light-duty truck, has been treated to a more modern drivetrain while retaining most of its old-school look. Throughout its five-year run, the Apache would see a few changes from year to year, the most noticeable being the switch from single to dual headlights in 1958. These trucks would be the first to have access to V8 power since 1917. The pickups had wrap-around windshields, optional wrap-around rear windows, and power steering and brakes became available along with the air conditioning. Suddenly, it’s the 1980s!
The seller’s ’59 Apache is a short-wheelbase, “step-side” model. Its body looks to be in attractive shape and wears either flat black paint or primer. It has a new windshield and a refurbished interior that presents well. The chassis is 100% stock, and the braking system is period-correct, too.
Whatever engine and transmission were in the Apache originally have been replaced by a Chevy 350 V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter. We’re told the truck runs great so there’s no reason you couldn’t begin using it right away. It has the look of a budding custom or hot rod though you could leave it just the way it is and be happy. The buyer will be treated to a bunch of extra parts although what they are is not mentioned.
Learned to drive in a truck like this,late “60”s 6 banger manual trans. on the farm in a field 8 yrs. old. Oh ya!

It may run great but I wonder how it stops with the “period-correct” braking system?
A nice truck that could lead a dual purpose life, as a hauler and a classic vehicle. Front disc brakes could be added at some point, but I would be comfortable using it as-is. Old trucks take more effort to drive, and to me, that’s part of the appeal.
In 1981 my dad brought home a 58 Apache. As a smartass 20 yr old I asked him if I could drive it. Three on the tree,no problem. He laughed and said try to start it. I couldn’t. I never heard of a starter pedal….
I think this is a great start and could be a great driver truck. However I think most people would become tired of it as an everyday diver , considering , brakes steering and dive train. I t also sounds like a great adventure until you do it everyday. I have had both side and driven both allot. The truck I have now is of that era (50″s),but with all the bells and whistles, rack @ pinion, Mustang ll, V-8, Automatic , 9 inch IRS, 4 wheel disc’s, A/C , Stereo. You get the picture and I can tell you I love driving it ,and it is still an old truck, but WOW is it comfortable and safe.
