The compact Pontiac Tempest/LeMans took on more size in 1964, becoming a mid-size GM offering along with the Oldsmobile Cutlass and Buick Skylark. They got their first redesign in 1968, creating a look that would resonate well with buyers for years to come. The seller’s ’69 LeMans Sport Coupe is one of more than 82,000 built that year, representing a full 82% of overall LeMans production. With bucket seats like this one, the LeMans looked a lot like its spawn, the GTO muscle car. Which may have helped account for the brisk sales.
This nice example wears Verdoro Green paint with a matching vinyl top and interior, a popular combination. Everything looks tidy and the seller does say it’s all original but could some of it have been redone in the last 55 years? The odometer reads 90,000 miles, meaning it hasn’t spent that much of its life inside a garage. This LeMans has a 350 cubic inch V8 paired with a TH-350 automatic transmission, likely one of many built with this setup.
Factory air conditioning was not one of the options the original buyer went for, but there is an aftermarket unit under the dash and it may need a recharge (or more). The driving status of the Pontiac is said to be great, and you could pilot this vehicle as-is or go for a restoration. But I’d avoid the latter because they’re only original once and there are enough GTOs out there for another clone to emerge.
If you’re in the Pacific Northwest, you’ll have to venture to Redmond, Oregon to see this LeMans in person. The asking price is $15,500 here on craigslist. Hats off to T.J. for another classic tip!
A car you could drive and enjoy mostly as is. I think this is a great starter car for someone thinking about getting into the car hobby. If I would have gotten a decent example for my first old car I would have saved a ton of money and time
I love Verdoro green and I would keep this one visually exactly as it is but I would pull the 350/auto and preserve it and drop in a 421, 428 or 455 4 speed. Glwta
Would you be willing to trade for 2006 Harley Davidson Street Bob in mint condition with only 4K miles??
It’s not being sold here. Go to Craigslist ad highlighted in article to contact seller.
*unless it’s a biker joke that I don’t get…
Best of luck!
Now this is the real deal. A nice Lemans, not a GTO or clone. Not outrageously priced either. Keep it as is and enjoy.
Relative bargain for what looks like a clean example. And there are more than enough GTO clones out there; do not turn this nice LeMans into another one!
Nice LeMans and good price. Won’t last.
I tend to agree with most people here that this car needs nothing to be enjoyed. Nice to see one survived in its original form.
I think that it is well worth the asking price. Not one of my favorite cars, but I certainly can appreciate it. I had a 1969 Grand Prix many, many years ago in Verdoro Green. I loved it then must admit that it’s better than the silver, gray, black or white of today’s boring vehicles.
The 350 V8 was a common option on GM intermediates if one wants a car that is authenic of the times. Making the LeMans a fake GTO diminishes the real thing. There maybe no provenamce of the 90,000 miles after 55 model years. If correct, that is only 1600 miles a year outside the garage. The aftermarket air conditioning fix could be costly to repair, recharge, convert or replace since new cars have used factory units for decades. Aftermarket units from 1969 would be impossible to find replacement parts for. The body style from 1968-72 looks classic. Another wise upgrade would be power disc brakes that would not change the appearance
Looks to me like it has power disc
Awesome and probably priced almost right. 14k cash should be able to drive it away. Drop 2 grand more to maybe pretty it up and enjoy.
Owned at one time a Custom S. Looks the same as this only black interior and top and silver body. Sold it so long ago. Wonder what happened to it.
After market installed A/C
