This 1964 Ford Galaxie is a car that I have quite a soft spot for, as we had a nearly identical car as our family car when I was a teenager. My father sold it, which is something that I’ve never really forgiven him for, and something that he has always regretted. This car is a nice example, and you will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. The Galaxie is located in Bullhead City, Arizona, and has been listed with a clean title. The owner has set a sale price of $7,000 for the car. A big thank you has to go to Barn Finder Pat L for spotting this one for us.
This is a nice looking car, but it isn’t perfect. The car has undergone a repaint at some stage in its life, and the new paint is slightly darker than the original. I’ve noticed a few marks on the body, and there is one above the rear wheel arch on the driver’s side that looks like it might be rust. There are also a couple of badges missing off the hood, but otherwise, it all looks quite nice.
The interior photos have me a bit puzzled. The seats wear fresh covers, and the headliner and door trims look quite good, although there is some wear on the trims themselves. The carpet is quite faded, and it may need replacing. The dash pad has at least one visible crack, but it’s the holes in the dash that confuse me. The owner does state that the car has been fitted with an aftermarket stereo, which includes eight hidden speakers. I’m not sure whether the head unit for the stereo fits in the holes, or what the story is. Any guesses out there?
There are no photos of the engine, but there’s a bit that we do know. The engine is a Z-Code 390ci V8. This has been fitted with a 4-bbl Holley carburetor. Behind that are a 4-speed Muncie transmission and a limited-slip rear end. The car is also fitted with a factory dual exhaust and a Hurst shifter. The car also has power steering and has been fitted with a new radiator and a Brute Force clutch. The original wheels have also been replaced, and the car now sits on new alloy wheels, with the rears being 18″ while the fronts are 17″.
This is a nice car that you could buy, drive, and thoroughly enjoy. The owner says that it does attract attention, and this really isn’t surprising. From the appearance in the photos, it wouldn’t take much effort to make this Galaxie something quite special. I really like it, and I wouldn’t mind having it in my garage. How about you?
Crazy cool Ford, always wondered how many of these were produced, four door XL-s ? Rescued a black automatic from a junk yard many moon’s ago.Listings such as this make me want to drag it up and tear into it. Super nice day here in Kansas, right after turkey feast, nap, play with grand kids, thats the plan-LOL.
Wasn’t aware that the Galaxies of this vintage came with Muncies, I know they had T-10s and then Toploaders…nice car though.
I wondered about that too. I had 2 ’64 Fords and both of them were Borg-Warner 4-speeds. One was a top-loader (I think the one that originally had a 427 in it) and the other with the 390 had the regular T-10. Back in the day, I thought Muncies were made by GM. It does appear that at some point Borg-Warner sold the licensing rights to Muncie (in the 80’s?). Makes me wonder if that is truly the original transmission, although perhaps a Muncie T-10 would work as a replacement since it is supposedly the same case.
The car doesn’t have a Muncie, it has a MUNSI, the is just typical ignorant Craigslist hype. Same with the factory Hurst shifter and HOLLY carb. I’d take anything this seller says with a grain of salt.
It’s a cool car, but the ad reads like it’s a flip and the seller hasn’t much research.

One of the better looking 4 doors ever made, IMHO.
These were good, solid, and tough cars. The 1965 and 66 models were nothing compared to them IMHO.
Bob C., the frames for the ’65s were so good they were used in NASCAR through the Eighties, drivetrains were the same as ’63 & ’64, so not sure why you’re ragging on the later years. Much better NVH control, (quieter than a Rolls Royce!) and at least I can find a rear bumper for my ’66. (’64 had a reinforcement bar behind the bumper which caused rot. Is that why the seller won’t show a picture of his?) Had a ’63 convertible, will take my ’66 over it any day.
I’m surprised this car is not gone unless it is and the seller hasn’t deleted the post yet. This is one 4 door I would love to own.
Bid at $7,500 now. I predict it will go for quite a bit more….close to $10K
Huh? Bid?
It is on craigslist listed at $7500. I’m sure he would take 10K for it if offered.
You don’t see many 4 doors with a 4 on the floor. I’m not totally convinced that it actually has a Muncie behind that 390.
What are door trims? I’m old and have never heard of them. Are they part of the door panels? Or are they on the outside of the door? Maybe I’m going nuts.
That’s Newspeak for interior door panels.
Thank you. Sounds like dumbspeak to me, but thank you.
And some call them door cards.
Would like to see that Torino parked next to it in the driveway, plenty of blue oval stuff here.
Great looking Galaxie, like the mods that have been done although a set of torque thrusts would have looked just as good, at least for me. Cruiser all the way.
The Ford trash-can wheel covers would do it for me on the wheels, but these do look good. Very nice looking car.
Drive and enjoy. Repeat.
Two holes in dash, left was for radio, and right was for the clock.
Too bad it isn’t a wagon.
Check out the latest Hagerty Barn Find Hunter. He visits Snowball Bishop, a Ford collector in Virginia who has everything you need to restore this Ford
I have never seen one of these with bucket seats and a 4 speed in a 4 door.
Rare option, cool dealer in Huntsville Al. had a few when they were new. Had to know what blocks to fill on the order forms.
4-doors and 4-speed, cool! The wheels are terrible but easy to fix. I’ll bet the pictures were taken before he installed the stereo, there’s also a photo before the rims were put on. Jimmy on Craigslist you offer less, not more!
In all my born days I have never seen this cool of a Galaxie.
The tranny info is flaky.
But other than that this is cool 4 door hardtop. Price is good too.
Awesome sedan, in a fantastic colour… this would be an beautiful car for family cruising, with the odd occurrence of lightning up the tires to annoy the neighbours. Love this one, and the price seems right.
I’d be willing to bet the transmission is a Toploader, not a MUNSI (or a Muncie, either.)
There are too many doors on this car, otherwise it’s not bad. Not really wild about the color.
Yep…last on I saw in the same color was in Tom’s wrecking yard….cool hardtop more door right there – his had the buckets and an auto…still pretty sexy…
Finally here from guys with the same love for 64 xl town Victoria as me I have two one org and one that has $35000 restoration done on it Best looking 4 dr hardtop ever built.
One of the coolest cars ever. And still looks wicked in 4 door form. Not many could do that
Does anyone here know where you can buy new doors deals for the 4 door galaxie hardtop. Cant find them anywhere
