This 1982 Jeep J-10 Honcho was a one-owner truck until the seller bought it recently and is selling it already. This black beast is listed on eBay in Colorado Springs, Colorado with no reserve and the bid is just over $3,000.
These are tough looking trucks, have any of you owned a Jeep J-series pickup? The Jeep Gladiator was introduced for the 1963 model year and these full-sized pickups were discontinued in 1988 after Chrysler bought AMC and found that the J-series pickups competed with their existing pickup line. That’s a shame. There have been a few Jeep pickup concepts over the years and of course they made the Jeep Comanche, a smaller pickup, until 1992.
This particular J-10 looks and sounds like a nice example. The seller reportedly has recently purchased it from the son of the original owner and it has “no rust, no dents, and good glass.” I wish I could say the same thing about myself. The 4WD system also works good and that’s great news. Like Subaru, I can’t imagine a non-all-wheel drive Jeep but also like Subaru, they made them and Subaru still makes a rear-wheel drive car as a joint venture with Toyota. I only mention that because someone would have said, “What about the Subaru BRZ, that’s rear-wheel drive!” Jeep, of course, made rear-wheel drive vehicles, too.
A black Jeep 4×4 step side pickup with a black interior and a 4-speed? Yes, please. And one with power windows and power locks? Fancy. The Honcho package was available from 1976 to 1983 on the J-10 (the shorter wheelbase) pickup and it was basically a decal package, although it appears that this Honcho has been repainted? I haven’t seen one without the decals before. But, you’re in luck, our friends at Phoenix Graphics have replica decals available. The box looks good but it’s hard to tell from the photos – at least we know that there is no rust and there are no dings.
This is the venerable AMC 258 cubic-inch inline-six which wouldn’t have had much horsepower above 110 or so. What an engine, these things have been used in such a wide variety of vehicles from a Gremlin to a Jeep Honcho pickup. This one “Runs good, no smoke at all, good oil pressure, no noise, no leaks.” Again, unlike myself. With no reserve this could end up being a killer deal for a rust-free 4-speed 4×4 Jeep pickup. Have any of you owned a Jeep J-10 pickup?
And the eBay says it’s no longer available.
Straight from the listing on eBay dated 17 Aug 2017. The title had been lost when we bought the truck, we have completed the title recovery process and are waiting for it to come in the mail.
I’ve always wondered what kind of people lose titles to vehicles. Shouldn’t they be kept in a strong box with other “important” papers?
Flippers😝
Not the smart ones!
Not a Honcho, but look(ed) to be a nice J10 Truck. 258 will have a T5 manual behind it…not the most robust transmission for wheeling, but will definitely drive the truck down the road with ease. From the looks of this one, it didn’t do much off-road service. Interior is sharp and those SportSide fenders are RARE, especially in the condition these appear to be in. Just those fenders are worth a grand. The “Muscle” Grille is rare as well as they weren’t available for too many years
Someone knowledgeable paid way up for that truck “off line” is why it’s no longer available I’m sure.
I have personally owned 5 Jeep trucks…..a J4000….a J300…a 79 J20….a 79 lifted J10….and another 78 J10…..all great trucks w great memories…..i would buy this….. way under priced . Great find great price Great truck…..too bad she is GONE
Yeah, as a child of the 80s, this checked a lot of boxes for me too. An order from Clifford Performance could hop up that online six. Someone got a nice truck.
“…will have a T5 manual …”
not a jeep guy but isn’t that a ‘world class’ tremic. May B i don’t understand ur comment.
I like the truck. Tip top motor 2 me!
And yes, would put the ’00/’04 jeep NV 3550 in, also frnt discs if not equipped. The bed is rightsized for 1/2 my needs & like the step side looks. Lght paint later if not useto the blk ina yr.
Very nice! I don’t know, but maybe they decided to wait for the title then put a real dollar value on it! That’s what I would do if it were me! Either that or put a high reserve on it then have auction and see who wants it the most! That way you can refuse any bid or bids that you don’t like below your reserve!
Here’s mine 1983 jeep j 10 honcho 1 owner 360 at ac 80k miles
