The Fairlane joined the Ford lineup in 1955, named after Henry Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan estate. It became a mid-size product in 1962 (the first of its kind?) and remained in the company portfolio through 1970 (having been replaced by the Torino). This fifth-generation Fairlane (500?) is from 1967 and has been in the seller’s barn since 1982. This two-owner vehicle can be found in North Davidson, North Carolina, and is available here on craigslist for $12,500.
Ford redesigned the Fairlane in 1966 and it gained stacked headlights like the senior Fords. While the 200 cubic inch inline-6 was standard fare, the majority of the 1966-67 Fairlanes were likely equipped with the 289 V8 like in the seller’s car. This vehicle was optioned with an automatic transmission, power brakes (steering, too?), and factory air conditioning. When the seller acquired the vehicle, it had less than 45,000 miles and apparently none have been added since.
More than 70,000 Fairlane 500s were built as 2-door hardtops in 1967, excluding the XL and GT versions. So, they were popular cars, second in sales to Chevy’s newer Chevelle (added in 1964). We get the impression this is one of those “ran when parked” cars given its low mileage at the time of acquisition. It seems to be a part of a harem now where cars are added one after another and then left to fend for themselves.
Though it almost looks black, we’re told there is burgundy paint under all the dirt and grime that 42 years will bring. The tires are all flat and the car may be sinking into the floor of the barn. The body, paint, and interior are said to have been in like-new condition back in 1982, but since interior photos aren’t offered, there’s no telling what the passengers might face today. It sounds as though the seller is thinning the herd and this Ford is one of the first to go. Would you take the plunge?
Too many unknowns for the asking price.
Seller doesn’t own a hose?
To quote the seller…
“It has never set outside since I bought it.”
So I guess it’s never been near a hose!
Hey, do you know what the current price of Barn Dust is going for nowadays?
It took 42 years to get it to that Patina.
12,500 ?
It’s worth looking into before taking the plunge.. Seems straight and I can attest to where the rot will settle in by sitting on the ground regardless of the overhanging roof. Definitely not worth the asking price,,, so, buyer beware.
Mom & Pop’s first new car was a ’66 Fairlane 390 4speed Raven Black non-GT. I remember being small enough to ride down the road laying up on the package tray.
Sold it in 1977 for $300.00 to a co-workers kid who promptly ran it into a tree at warp 8 and killed himself.
Sad.
My ‘66 Fairlane GT 390 3 speed sold for $300, also, about the same time. The Oil Embargo ruined the muscle car market.
Wright?
Parked all those years on a dirt floor, wonder what the frame looks like?
Ugly, if there is a floor left!!!
I need this one to match my wagon!

Would like to see people at least power wash these cars and give a better look at what they have, with that said put this one back in the barn.
Sat too long and too many unknowns and much to replace to make it roadworthy for the asking price. $4K, maybe
Not saying the car is BS but the “story” on CraigsList sure is.
What is the car to the left.
Here we have another classic car that has been sitting since I was a freshman on highschool with a I don’t really want to sell it price. $4,000 tops because you are going to have to re-home the mice and replace a bunch of things to get this back on the road.
If the story is true, what a shame to let it deteriorate so much.
Since it is on Winston-Salem NC Craigslist, I suspect that it is in northern Davidson County (just below Winston-Salem), and not the northern part of the city of Davidson (an hour away).
This is not a serious seller. If he were, he’d have made some effort. The few pictures and his stories in the ad just leave us asking more questions. If you contacted him and asked obvious questions, he probably wouldn’t even answer. I bet he has a fantasy that the phone will ring off the hook and there’ll be a bidding war. In reality, it’ll sit there until kingdom come.
The craigslist add has 2 other cars next to it too.Have they been sitting since 1982 too?
Certainly looks like it . . .
My brother’s 1st car was 67′ just like this one, blew the 289 and dropped in a 302 and like this one sat in a garage for many years.
Craigslist posting deleted
Posting has been removed. Maybe it sold? Who knows. 12K seemed quite ambitious to me. If rodents haven’t made it into a condo I’d be surprised. You’ll definitely dump mucho dinero into this to return it back to the condition it was when parked all those many years ago.
sad. Almost as bad as FB marketplace.
What a change from another generation. We had 50, $75 dollar cars we’d play chicken @ the back 40, take to the demo derby, etc. Nxt step up was a winter beater 2, 300$. For 500 you could get a year round car that would last 3, 4 years. It went up from there. But the point of note is they showed honestly after a visit w/year, mileage and a sales quote. These guys: “It x$ gimmie da money and get outa here.”
Some people in the Piedmont Triad go to prison for 40 years, get out and still actually have a barn and the car they said to put there.
I see so many cool old cars that some probably have that story. Lots of Harley Davidson cycles around here have that story too.
My 1st newer car that I bought. 1962 Fairlane Sport Coupe. Black with red interior. I paid 995.00 + NYS Tax gor it. I entered the US Army a year later and after 2 months I wrote home to have my Father sell it for me. I couldn’t afford the $35.00 monthly payments on my E1 army pay. 2 years later when I returned from Veit Nam as an E-5, with one more year to go I bought a 2 year old Galaxie 500 Convertable, Red on Red, white top. Also a very good car.
Thank you for your service, C5!
That Fairlane must be a tough customer aftet fending for himself 42 years!
It’s sold – I reached out to the seller
