$4,200 1977 Dodge Macho Power Wagon!

We have seen a couple of these Macho edition trucks by Dodge in the past here on Barn Finds. This 1977 Dodge Macho Power Wagon looks like a fun project, not to mention coming with a plow, which would come in handy here in the upper-Midwest right now. This one can be found here on eBay in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The seller has a $4,200 buy it now price listed.

Given how hot vintage pickups are now, especially special edition 4×4 models, I’m surprised at the $4,200 price on this one. It will need a fair amount of work but most of us can weld or we can learn. Most of us can learn how to do just about anything that it would take to restore this truck, maybe even paint in a homemade paint booth made out of clear vinyl sheeting and a cheap 2×4 framing system out in the yard. This truck has only had two owners and has been a plow truck from day one, according to the seller.

Dodge offered several versions of their Adult Toys line of pickups and vans and the Macho edition came in several colors and they all had certain features, such as roll bars. A buyer will have to do some research to make sure that the truck that they’re buying is the real thing, such as how the factory roll bars would have been mounted in the bed and things like that. As these trucks become more popular there will most likely be fakes out there being passed off as the real thing. The seller says that there “is some rust mostly around the passenger rear wheel well and at the sill plate in the drivers floor but not a rusty truck.”

Black bucket seats were standard on 1977 and 1978 Macho edition trucks, they were optional after that. The last year for these trucks would be 1981 and Dodge had renamed their pickups to Dodge Ram for that year. I’m surprised at how nice the interior looks on this truck. I don’t really see any glaring issues other than the windshield which shouldn’t be a huge deal to have changed. The driver’s seat needs some work and the aforementioned rusty sill plate. The seller would rather not deal with having the truck shipped with the plow attached so you can either pick up the whole thing yourself or the plow stays with the current owner.

This is Dodge’s 318 cubic-inch V8 which needs carb work and they also say that the automatic transmission works fine but the linkage is loose and that’ll need to be looked at and repaired. Especially with the plow, this seems like it would be a good buy for a special edition 4×4 pickup without much rust, a decent interior, and a plow. Any thoughts on this Macho Power Wagon?

When I see these, I have to think of the farm I used to live on in Wisconsin, the guy had a pickup like this, only a long box, what was left of it. The deplorable condition that truck was in, with neglected mechanicals and a good portion of the body gone and the fact it still was able to be used, is a sheer testament to how well these are made.

That’s the problem with Dodges, they run forever but the bodies fall off of them if they aren’t taken care of.

Quien es mas macho? Dodge o Ford ?

Voto por el Dodge. Sólo los hombres de verdad conducirían este camión con un arado.

    No estás de acuerdo, Howard?

        Hmmmm….too obscure a riff…..Garrett Morris on SNL circa 1976?

Translation: ” Who ( Which car) is more macho? Dodge or Ford?

I Vote for the Dodge. Only real men would drive this truck with a plow.

        You disagree, Howard?”

Tja, jag har ingen aning om vad han sa, kanske att Dodge är bättre än Ford och GM?

These were built when truck were trucks. Rough riding, noisy, cramped workhorses. But this is a fantastic plow truck. Had one just like it many year ago. Limited slip axles and a strong frame was ideal for the job. It was as steal at this price.
