Visit a rural watering hole, start jawing about muscle glory, and someone might lean in and whisper about a genuine 428 muscle car sitting for decades. This 1969 Ford Cobra sat “partially exposed” and needs attention in every aspect, but the seller includes a roll call of coded parts on the claimed Super Cobra Jet Ford. Check out those details and more here on eBay. The project comes with a $27,500 Buy It Now price, or you can tempt the seller with the Make offer button. Serious buyers will want to visit Winchester, Kentucky and see this specimen up close.

According to the VIN and Body Tag decoders at The Poor Man’s Off-Chassis Restoration, this 46 (Cobra Fastback) came to life in the Atlanta, Georgia assembly plant with the R code Ram-Air-Inducted 428 and a close-ratio four-speed manual gearbox. Get that powertrain spinning 3.91 gears out back and you’ve got a recipe for drawing two black lines every time you get angry or accidentally sneeze with your foot on the gas.

The F code Dark Aqua Metallic aka Gulfstream Aqua ranks high among most epic colors of the ’60s and ’70s, and while it would take Herculean effort to restore this once-ferocious Ford, it’s not every day you find a reasonably complete (albeit rusty) R code 428 car that hasn’t been dredged up from a pond or wrapped around an oak tree. This Fairlane came in 500, Torino, and Cobra variants for ’69, as shown in the brochure from lov2xlr8. This sixth-generation body ran for two years: 1968 and 1969.

Here’s your engine picture, folks. Ford fans can geek out on what you CAN see, backed up by the seller’s decoding. Add “sleeve at least two cylinders” to your checklist, according to the seller. Conservatively rated at 335 HP (gross), these made impressive real-world power as shown in this video of a “nearly stock” 428 making almost 400 on a dyno. Do you see this once-venomous Cobra coming back to life or giving its parts to another project?

One of 230 if I’m reading this article right. Hope it can be saved!
I see the R code in door vin as in write up. This one needs a complete resto with the rust underneath. It’s always a lil scary with an engine dismantled but the heads and block are pictured. It’s the intakes and carb numbers and details that get s lil sketchy.
These ask high numbers but restoration, engine and paint gets one to finding a better one. .
