429 Equipped: 1977 Ford F-150 Custom 4×4

The 1977 Ford F-150 Custom 4×4 offered buyers competent performance in all circumstances, regardless of which of the five available engines they chose to power their new purchase. However, this F-150 is a custom in the literal sense, with its engine bay housing an upgraded V8 that should significantly improve the power available to the driver. It presents nicely, with the supplied photos confirming it needs nothing but a new home. The seller has listed the F-150 here on eBay in Airway Heights, Washington. Bidding has raced beyond the reserve, sitting at $15,350 at the time of writing.

Ford launched its Sixth Generation F-Series in December 1972, with vehicles rolling out of showrooms until 1979. The new model rode on the same chassis as its predecessor. However, Ford emphasized rust prevention strategies more, meaning that more of these classics survived in a rock-solid state than any previous generations. This 1977 F-150 Custom makes a bold statement in Code 1C Black. The seller doesn’t mention prior restoration work, but the lack of visible flaws and defects suggests it has received at least a cosmetic refresh. The paint shines impressively, perfectly contrasted by bright trim that is spotless. The bed features a sprayed liner, but the lack of dings and dents in its steel suggests the vehicle hasn’t been abused. About the only thing cleaner than this Ford’s exterior is its underside. The included images reveal a consistent layer of undercoat on the floors and frame, with no rust problems. The glass is crystal clear, and the aftermarket wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires hint at the beast lurking below this classic’s skin.

F-150 buyers in 1977 could order engines ranging from the 300ci six to the range-topping 460ci V8 producing 200hp. That power was fed to the road via a four-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. This Pickup also features power assistance for the steering and brakes to ensure effortless maneuverability in all circumstances. This would have been an excellent workhorse or off-roader, but the updated V8 nestling in the engine bay should allow it to make the best use of the tow hitch. The seller confirms it features an upgraded 429ci V8, and while they don’t reveal its specifications, the visual clues suggest it could be churning out some serious power and torque. It wears a set of aluminum heads and a Hi-Rise intake. Spent gases exit via headers and a shiny dual exhaust. The seller uses the word “robust” in the listing description but doesn’t supply specific information about how this classic runs or drives. The clean presentation of the engine bay and underside reveals no signs of fluid leaks or other problems that might indicate that the news is anything but positive.

The interior is another area of this F-150 that needs nothing. The Gray and Black cloth and vinyl seatcover is free from wear, and there is no evidence of deterioration on the door trims. The painted surfaces are as impressive as the exterior, and the pad hasn’t succumbed to UV damage. Aftermarket additions include a sports wheel and Pioneer radio/CD player. The speakers for this are concealed behind the door trims, making reversing that change reasonably straightforward. The only feature it lacks is air conditioning, which might be a consideration with the dark paint if the winning bidder lives in a warm region.

This 1977 Ford F-150 Custom 4×4 is stunning, and its drivetrain specifications suggest it has the muscle to match its looks. It is ideal for someone seeking a turnkey classic that is comfortable off-road, on the open road, or with a load hooked to the rear. It has attracted twenty-two bids, although these haven’t pushed the price beyond the reach of mere mortals. That may change as the end draws near, but are you tempted to monitor this auction? You never know, but if the price remains modest, you might be tempted to park it in your driveway.

Educate me, is this a hi-boy, or has it been raised? The drive shafts are at a very big angle.

Definitely wouldn’t want any “BRUSH STROKES” on this one. Anyone who goes off-road knows what that means and for those of you who don’t, it refers to the beautiful little scratches you get when you go off road in the “brush”. This is an absolutely beautiful truck. Just under 2 days left of the auction and just over 20 thousand bid. Worth every penny IMO. Always liked this body style from 67 on up to 79. Someone did this one right. Only thing I would change is the name on the title. 😆 LOL

I am a Ford guy and this truck is done up very well other than the lack of A/C.
If I didnt live so far away I would throw my hat in the ring to park this beauty in my drive. The seller should do extremely well on this one !

I was the “winner” of this one on eBay. Turns out it was apparently a scam. I never could get in touch with the seller through messaging so I had eBay send me his contact info. He had given them a bogus phone number.
