The Fairlane was part of the Ford ensemble from 1955 to 1970. From 1962 forward, it was a mid-size car and gained stacked headlights in 1966 to match the bigger Ford. The seller’s ’66 Fairlane is a GTA, meaning it was a performance car with an automatic transmission (manuals were simply called GTs). Now sporting a 4-speed and an engine upgrade, this non-running project was a barn find in Ballston Spa, New York. The seller/flipper has priced it at $7,645.75 OBO here on eBay.

New in 1966, besides the styling, were the XL, GT, and GTA models, along with a convertible for the first time as an intermediate. GT/GTAs had a 390 cubic inch V8 as standard equipment, as advertised on the hood of the seller’s car. It was a potent performer with 335 hp. According to the seller, just 4,327 of the GTA convertibles were produced in 1966, which means the number left in any condition after 60 years must be small.

The door tag identifies this Ford as a real deal GTA that was painted red when it left the factory. Remnants of that color remain, but blue was applied some years later. What’s left of the interior is black, but the front seats are MIA. The original C6 automatic transmission was swapped out for a manual at some point, so it’s more of a GT now. The factory Ford 9-inch rear end is still in place. Instead of the 390, a 429 resides under the hood now, something the seller does not mention.

We’re told the engine turns over, but that’s as far as that story goes. Some of the sheet metal is still solid, while the lower rear quarter panels will require attention. The floors are going to need some assistance, as well. The seller says the Fairlane will cooperate by rolling and steering for loading onto another trailer for its ride to a new home. Because New York State didn’t do titles before 1973, this Ford will be sold with a bill of sale. If you’re east of the Mississippi River, delivery by the seller may be possible.

I need floor photos. what year is the 429cu engine? Is there a clear title
