A holy grail can appear in many different ways. As long as it still exists, there is still some shred of hope like this ’70 Dodge Charger R/T. Packing a factory 440 4-speed drive-train, this is for sure a rare and cool machine. Although mostly there, a restoration is certainly in order for this Charger. Currently bid up to $12,100, the buy it now price is $32,500. Check it out here on eBay out of Vincennes, Indiana.
There is no doubt that the 440 put to rest a few lesser muscle cars back in its day, although now the 440 is currently seized. This is claimed to be a numbers matching machine, so that is certainly big news as well. The pistol grip 4-speed is still in place, and this car was also equipped with a sure grip limited slip rear. Looking in the engine compartment you can see surface rust, as well as a few pin holes in the firewall.
While the floors are rough, a fair amount of the original interior survives. The front bucket seats are a little rough as are the door panels, but the rest of the interior appears in reasonable shape. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few cracks in the dash.
Fairly straight down the sides, the front edge of the car is a bit wavy. The outer rockers appear solid, but the floors, and trunk floor are crispy. The seller is providing new floors, but either way you cut it, someone has a lot of work ahead of them. Also someone in the past plasma cut the passenger rear fender in an effort to begin a restoration. I would expect that you will be replacing the quarters, as well as making repairs to the roof as this was a vinyl top car. While this is an ambitious restoration, this certainly seems a worthy machine to restore. Would you take on the challenge of restoring this 440 4-speed Charger?

I thought of that too, but it’s probably out of my price range like the car is.
You can buy a new Charger R/T Scat Pack for just a little bit more. A very good vehicle. I know, I know, I know. Can’t compare new to old. Flame away. But really. At this price point and this work level, you’ve got to start thinking about it, IMO.
If they put covered headlights on the new car I might do that.
Actually, I am waiting to see what models come to Mexico. They say all Chargers for 2020 will be widebody in the US but I don’t know what they are going to do for Mexico.
The wide body will be standard on the Hellcat and optional in the R/T Scat Pack. I don’t think it’ll be available on the other models.
The Scat Pack with wide body MSRPs at around 45k and goes 0-60 in the low 4s and does the quarter in the low 12s. That’s faster than any factory ’68-70 Charger, including the Hemi, at about half the cost. And with full warranty and low to no interest financing.

I watched the video from TFL car, and Roman said that all Chargers in 2020 will have the widebody. He had the Scat Pack and the Hellcat there. Are they still selling lesser models in the US?
In Mexico we get a choice of the R/T 5.7L Daytona or the 6.2L Hellcat for 2019. I don’t know what they are going to do for 2020. The Challenger can still be had with the 6 cylinder.
Also, the Durango in Mexico is only a 2WD model, which sucks. They want almost 1 million pesos for a 2WD truck. No thanks.

It’s all rumor now as the ’20 hasn’t been formally put on the Dodge website. I’m just going on what the U.S. automotive press is saying.
Yes, there are several Charger trim levels. From base 6-cylinder SXT up to the Hellcat. They still sell well, despite the age of the chassis.
since chargers 300s and challengers are built in brampton ontario canada! and I have no word other wise I don’t know where you are coming from! and don’t care as I am never going to buy another new car to begin with! to much useless junk on them to go wrong!
Well, the bright side here is everything pretty much has already gone wrong on this car. So they’ll be no surprises!
Unless the seller starts getting more realistic on his price, he’s going to be sitting on this awhile. Considering the 440 is locked up, and the general overall condition is not that great, I’d like to know how he arrived at that figure.

Unlocking an engine is a little Marvel Mystery Oil and a crow bar. Of course, hopefully you are not going to break anything critical while doing so. It is not like you are not going to do a total tear down and rebuilt anyway.

A Charger should never have 4-doors therefore the 70 wins.
I guess it depends whether we count the rust holes in the floors as doors.
1968 – 70 charger is not a cheap car to restore. Lots of one off pieces.
I love a 4 door Charger and so do the police.

wouldn’t it be a lot easier, just to attend a Barrett Jackson or Mecum and buy one already done by a pro?
Even for a once great car the asking price is crazy.
Looks like someone started cutting off the passengers side quarter panel off with a plasma cutter or cutting torch already!!! I really can’t see in my opinion buying a car in need of complete restoration for this amount of money!! It’s a great car with the 440 and the 4 speed but how much money do you feel comfortable putting into a car like this???? At $32,000 and doing all the work yourself I bet you’d still have a minimum of $40,000 more!!! Let’s also mention probably 2 years or better before you drive it!! To me that’s a lot of time and money for not a good return on your investment or for your kids when they don’t want it after your pushing up daisies!!!!
I had a 4-speed 70 charger with a 440. Not the original engine but the correct one. Great driver quality paint, and reliable as all get out. I got 35 grand for it 3 years ago. Solid underbody. He’s got a car worth restoring to be sure, but for the price of charger parts today, you couldn’t pay more than like 15 grand for that car to not be totally upside down. Good luck….
Nope, crack is very bad drug. Restored it’s $60k, it needs $50k of restoration. Not a chance except the president of the more money than brains club.

What he wants doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll get it. Would have been a good looking screamer in its day. Holy Grail of the Dodge Chargers? This is pretty much how I would have ordered one but I think most people would consider the Hemi powered Chargers the holy of all Grails, possibly the six pack 440.
