One of the best-selling cars of the 1960s and 1970s was the Chevy Chevelle, a mid-size offering introduced in 1964. The most popular iteration was the second generation, built from 1968-72 during the heyday of the muscle car. But for those buyers not needing tire-burning performance, the Malibu Sport Coupe was a big hit. The seller’s 1969 example is said to be original with only 50,000 miles. Hopefully, its condition and $38,500 will keep it from becoming a Super Sport clone. Located in Sagamore Hills, Ohio, this beauty is available here on craigslist for a Chevrolet connoisseur.

Chevy found more than 300,000 buyers for the 1969 Malibu Sport Coupe. 95% of them opted for a V8 engine, and that includes the SS 396. The seller’s car has the popular 350 cubic inch V8, perhaps with a 2-barrel carburetor, and likely a TH-350 automatic transmission (though a 2-speed Powerglide was still on the table). 1969 styling followed along the lines of the 1968, though if you put them side-by-side, they were distinctively different.

The history of this Chevelle is not mentioned, which might explain how only 50,000 miles have been logged in 57 years. The burgundy paint is said to be original, which is nicely flanked by a contrasting white vinyl top. The interior matches the roof, and the upholstery looks well-preserved and protected from the elements. The machine is numbers-matching, and we’re told that it runs and drives as well as it looks.

Working factory air conditioning is part of the deal, and everything may be original except for the T/A radial tires and the in-dash 8-track tape player (gadzooks!). As the seller says, they’re “only original once,” and we hope the eventual buyer will decide against making any changes other than adding a few more miles to the odometer on the weekends!

Hey Russ, chevelle is in Ohio near cleveland
Yes, they’re “only original once”. Here’s hoping it stays that way. Preserved and enjoyed for what it is, a nicely optioned, mostly original car in beautiful shape.
Very nice clean Chevelle here and hope it stays that way with the new buyer. Maybe add dual exhaust and a passenger mirror thats it. It appears to have a 2 barrel carb.
Purchased at Marcotte Chevrolet, Auburn, ME. Home of the Sticker Smasher. He had a huge hammer on the roof of the dealership. About 10 miles from me, it’s an Oreilly auto parts store now.
nice survivor. hope it don’t become an SS wanabe. needs the correct derby caps. asking good money for it. nice colors
No add SS crap. Put long tube headers and period correct exhaust (dumps out behind the tires). Install mild cam and four barrel intake and carburetor. Oh hell, just pull the engine and tranny and make a 450 hp sleeper out of grandma’s old Malibu.
No add SS crap.
Had to clarify that.
Are you listening?
Beautiful. The best looking Chevelle there was.
Someone isn’t going to spend nearly $40,000 and turn it into an SS clone. It’s cost probitive. If you want a clone you start with something that’s solid, but worn out or rough around the edges.
This is nice and has some good options, but it has a hefty price tag, which limits the buyer pool. Buyers looking at real survivors will want to check it out in person and see if if it’s truly as described.
Steve R
Steve I would assume the price tag was geared toward the exclusive buyers who are looking for those pure original gems….perhaps a limited group in scope, however those buyers do have the dollars to throw down, especially for rarity..
Nice survivor driver quality Chevelle, but no freaking way at $38,500.
Could not agree more. Today we are witnessing the exclusive Ohio Chevelle Malibu car show.
Everything is for sale. For a price.
No SS crap.
The transmission oil pan shape and the shift quadrant on one of the Craigslist interior photos confirms a Turbo-Hydramatic 350. Nice Malibu! (hope it stays that way, too)
This looks like a great car assuming the description is dead-nuts accurate.
My only questions are about possible rust in the trunk floor (because of the vinyl top) and the $38.5 asking price. That just seems like a very high amount to me. He may get close, however, if the back window channel is still leak-free.
Nice car. Just needs a 4 bbl, rv cam. duals, & a modern stereo.
And jack it up and put 30s on it!
Yes! Destroy what makes it special!!!
Yeah, you would do that?? Maybe go ahead and throw some 36s on there with a 20 series tire?? Really mess it up and make it look like a clown car.
Beautiful car. And overpriced.
$25k max.
Make him an offer.
The seller has had this ’69 listed on Marketplace off and on going back to late last summer, so it seems that the market agrees, it’s priced too high.
I’d fork over the $38500, if the seller puts $15k in the glovebox.
Id love to have this car. I would keep it stock looking, but couldn’t resist a high rise, headers, and 4 barrel. Agree with Billy, period correct duals. 3.31 or 3.42 posi of course…maybe 300 hp cam. Buddy of mine had a 70 Nova like that…so much fun. Low end torque galore!
