50k Miles? 1969 Dodge Charger

Is the glass half empty or half full?  That’s the cliche that keeps coming to my mind as I look over this 1969 Dodge Charger.  The second-generation Charger was produced from 1968 through 1970 and is still a hot commodity in the muscle car market, and reproduction parts are plentiful.  If you’ve been thinking about taking on a B-body project, this 1969 Dodge Charger might be worth taking a look at.  Located in Paris, Illinois, some 150 miles south of Chicago, it can be seen here on Craigslist with an asking price of $34,500.  Many thanks go out to Barn Finds reader Gunter Kramer for the tip on this one.

The seller doesn’t give us a whole lot of detailed information about the car or its history, and there’s not an abundant amount of photos either.  The good news is that the car does appear to be complete, and judging from what photos there are of the body the gaps and lines seem to line up well, although the rearview mirrors are both missing.  Even the windshield wipers go all the way down like they’re supposed to, and those Cragar S/S wheels give the car a mean look.  The rear quarter panels were replaced 10 or 15 years ago and the car was repainted, although the paint job looks like it was average at best.  It would have been good to have seen a picture of what the car looked like before the repaint, but the fact that it has been outside and the paint is as old as it is may be a good indicator that there aren’t too many surprises hiding under that blue finish.

Here’s where the glass starts to get a bit empty for me.  While it’s nice to see that this Charger is equipped with a Tic Toc Tach, the corrosion (or whatever that is) on the instruments is concerning, and the rest of the dashboard doesn’t look so good either.  The seller doesn’t broach the subject of rust anywhere in the ad, and unfortunately, there are no photos of the trunk area or underside of the car.  There are also no pictures of the motor or under the hood, although the 383 engine is said to be numbers matching and the seller states that the car runs and drives good.  The car is also stated to have just 50,000 miles, but no documentation is offered to back up that claim.

However, although it’s nowhere near perfect, if that is indeed the original interior I would think it might look worse if the actual mileage was 150,000, especially being white.  I’m not implying that the seats look good, but if the car actually had 3 times the miles it is said to have traveled they may have more damage and wear.  I’d love to hear what our readers have to say about the 50,000 miles claim.

What are your thoughts on this 1969 Dodge Charger?  Is the glass half empty or half full?  What do you think about the $34,500 price tag for what you are getting here, including the unknowns?

Not really enough info/pictures to make a true determination. The quarters were replaced, but not the wheel well moldings. Rust on the gauges implies moisture intrusion, which is never good for electrical components. Although the body/interior seems to in good shape for a starting point, the $34K ask is (IMO) too high w/ all of the unknowns. Mileage claims w/o documentation are about as good as non-matching numbers lotto tickets!

I had texted this guy a month ago when I saw his initial posting (this is a repost of his on Craigslist). Got extra pictures, and it’s in rougher shape than what is being shown.

Good car if you need a VIN but 34,500 is a tad hot imo

Odd that the CL ad claims that it has 7 miles less than the odo photo shows. Was it driven and then that photo was added? If som that would be aplus.

I love the call outs on the windshield. Like looking at something like this when it was “justausedcar”.
