Some strong bids are coming in on this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. Equipped with a 396 cubic inch V8 big block motor and 4 speed, the seller states that the car is an original survivor. The Chevelle is located in Brooklyn, Iowa, and is listed for auction here on eBay. While the reserve has not been met, the bids are up to $42,600 with five days remaining in the auction. We appreciate Patrick S for sending this gem our way.
The contrasting white interior looks stunning against the blue exterior paint. The white bucket seats show some wear but it is a 50-year-old car. As a bonus, the car is equipped with air conditioning. The Chevelle has had three owners over its lifetime and is only 51,016 miles on the odometer. The sale of the car comes with documentation including two build sheets, an owner’s manual, and an original set of spare keys with the key blanks.
The engine compartment is very clean and boasts the original 396 cubic inch V8 engine. The motor is backed by a Muncie 4 speed transmission and 3.31 to 1 rear Posi gears. The seller states that everything is in working order and the car runs great and goes through all the gears with no unusual noises. The engine was removed and all the gaskets were replaced but a rebuild was not necessary. The seller did install new hardened valve seats so the car can run on today’s gasoline. The Chevelle is equipped with new Coker bias-ply replica tires and factory rally wheels.
The paint is said to be original except for the driver’s front fender which was repainted with a 2 stage paint. There has never been any rust repair and the car has all its original sheet metal. The exterior paint has a nice shine to it but the seller discloses that there are a few small dents. Regardless, this survivor is a rare and unique muscle car.
Gem is right! This is a sapphire beauty, Though the 454 was Da Beast, this car is so much more of a driver with the 396. At least it was back when I had access to both…
It’s Baa-aak!

thought it looked familiar!
Looks good to me. Nice color and options! Personally I don’t like the vinyl top but it’s a minor issue. I wish there were more pictures especially underneath. I always worry about vehicles from snow states. GLWS!
Outstanding in its field.
Booooooooo.
This is my brother’s dream car. If I had more resources, I’d put it in his driveway Christmas morning with a big red bow!
Pretty rare to find one w/ factory air and 4 speed combo. Price proves that…
I like blue cars.
But the first picture of it up there, I thought it was just a Chevelle. Not an SS 396.
Compared to the SS454 this car must have seemed civilized
Nice ride.
I wouldn’t normally endorse modifying a nearly original car, but this one is crying out for a white vinyl top and/or white SS stripes.
CC Fisher , ditto, my thoughts exactly
Yup.
Nice time piece.
Carefully detail the paint. Drive. Life is too short to have it in sit in a heated garage.
