No Reserve 55k Mile 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

The days are getting longer, and that can only mean one thing. Summer is just around the corner. For those of you who have spent the past few months snuggled up in front of a heater, maybe now is the right time to snuggle up to a classic convertible instead. If that sounds too tempting to resist, this 1968 Camaro Convertible could be the perfect car to consider. It is a low-mileage survivor that is ready to hit the road with a new owner. Located in Boynton Beach, Florida, you will find the Convertible listed for sale here on eBay. There has only been a single bid of $23,500 submitted in what is a No Reserve auction.

The Butternut Yellow Camaro is a great-looking car. It is about as clean as you are likely to find, with no visible evidence of rust problems. The owner says that the car has had “very little rust” for its age, suggesting that there is either some minor rust that we can’t see or that it has undergone some repairs in the past. It has spent its entire life in Florida, and that’s usually a positive sign in these cases. The paint wears a pleasing shine, while the panels are as straight as an arrow. There is a Black power top that looks to be in excellent order, while the same is true of the glass and trim. The car is unmolested and still rolls on its original wheels and damage-free hubcaps.

The Camaro’s interior is just as nice as its exterior, and the only fault worth mentioning is some fading on the carpet. This looks acceptable for an original survivor, although the buyer might choose to spend $220 on a new carpet set to boost the interior. The upholstery is in excellent order, with no issues or problems. The dash is perfect, and there are no cracks on the pad. The original owner chose to order the Convertible with bucket seats, a console, and air conditioning that still blows ice-cold.

The owner doesn’t supply any engine photos, but we do know that the vehicle is a full numbers-matching classic. For those of you who were hoping for a V8, you will probably be disappointed. Under the hood is a 250ci 6-cylinder engine that would be producing 155hp. The Camaro also features a 2-speed Powerglide transmission and power steering. This is more of a comfortable cruiser than a muscle car, and the 20.1-second ¼-mile ET is proof of that. However, for a relaxed motoring experience, it should do quite nicely. The owner says that the six is whisper-quiet and that the car runs and drives perfectly. He also claims that it has a genuine 55,000 miles showing on its odometer, but he doesn’t indicate whether he holds evidence to confirm this.

Maybe this 1968 Camaro Convertible is not the most potent classic car that we have featured here at Barn Finds, but it does seem to be a beauty. If you are more concerned with a relaxed motoring experience than outright performance, it would seem to have a lot to offer. The owner states that values are increasing, and he is right on that front. However, a Convertible with a six under the hood that is bolted to a Powerglide will not command a premium in the market. That means that I wouldn’t be surprised if the bidding stays somewhere around its current level. The buyer might choose to slip something more potent under the hood, but that would be a personal preference.     I live in Florida, and own a loaded, 6 cylinder powered, Mustang. Sure, it’s an 06, with even less miles on it, and I don’t expect it to ever be a classic, but I paid top dollar because it appeared to be in excellent condition. Like I imagine is the case with this car, it is proving to be a nice cruisemobile.
    I paid a fraction of this first bid, but that isn’t what is forming my opinion. This car is currently at the peak price it could ever expect to draw for the foreseeable future. I think, personally, that it’s overpriced at 20 thousand. Yet, I find this car attractive in spite of the ” classic ” powertrain.
    I hope whoever buys this either keeps it as is, or make few, easily reversible modifications.

    The 1st thing i would like to do is take a look under that trunk mat & feel under that carpet thoroughly.
    Car seems to be sitting low up front on the driver’s side & wheel may be out of alignment. Talk about not hearing it run – it’s a wonder these run at all with that heavy ridiculous restrictive sideways muffler on there. I would hope it’s the original ’68 muffler soon to croak, so that a turbo muffler can be mounted under the back seat & wake(pard the pun) the thing up. lol
    Nobody sells the front exhaust pipe anymore unless u also buy the rest of the system including that silly muffler. & you can even get a stainless system including that silly muffler, if u r crazy enough – or want to pretend it’s an electric car …

    Phlathead and Steve, it depends on what State you’re in. You can name the seasons I suppose, but the weather doesn’t cooperate in the South. Or the far North either.
