56,000 Miles: 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Opinions vary when it comes to old cars, but I have seen way too many nice original cars partially dismantled for restoration like this ’63 Ford Falcon Sprint convertible. Appearing to be in great original condition, this Falcon looks like it needs to be revived and cleaned up with a few parts thrown at it. Parked for several years, this Falcon could be a fun and affordable convertible that could be easy to get out on the road. You can make this birdy yours for the buy it now price of $5,500. Check it out here on eBay out of Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

With only 56,000 original miles, hopefully the 170 cubic inch inline 6 still has some pep to offer after its long slumber. While there are no detailed images of the engine bay, it is easy to see that it is in orderly, albeit a bit dusty and dirty.

From the cockpit view, the dash and door panels look to be in nice shape, but the carpet appears to have been removed. The steering wheel looks a bit faded, and the bench seat also looks to have suffered from sun exposure as well. I would think that with a new carpet kit, and some upholstery work, that this Falcon would be finished from the interior point of view.

Typically when I consider a car for restoration, my mind does not immediately wander to the thought of an original paint low mileage car like this Falcon. The paint and body on this small convertible is gorgeous, and I believe that a solid cleaning and polishing would leave you with an awesome condition survivor. The driver side door trim has been removed, as well as the antenna, although the seller has assured that all parts are accounted for. With summer drawing to a close, you could probably get this beauty motoring again to enjoy a few drop top cruises before putting it away for the winter. Would you invest the time into this low mileage original?

I don’t believe this is a Sprint. It should say “Sprint” on the front fender, and one site suggests they never made a 6 cylinder Sprint, they all had the 260 V8. Sprints were a classy package, with bucket seats, console, wire wheel covers.I had a friend, the same guy that had the ’58 Corvette, and was into Falcons. He took a very tired ’63 Sprint, and put the V8 and 4 speed in a basic Falcon, and junked the Sprint. We always thought Drew had a couple wires touching in his head.

Those are “13 four lug wheels. All Sprints had “14 five lugs.

The original ‘63 Sprint I owned had 5 lug 13” wheels with the Sprint simulated wire wheel huncaps. Yes. Sprints had 260 V-8’s.

Not a Sprint but still looks like a nice car and, assuming the car checks out as being as good as it appears, the price is right for a drop top. I always liked these.

Yep looks like a Futura…..the Sprint was a 63 1/2 hardtop and then the 64’s converts could have the Sprint baging. We called that new pony car a Sprintang !

Definitely not a Sprint as others have already pointed out, but in as nice of condition as this one seems to be and at $5500 a very good deal. It would make a great restoration of restomod project.

We built this 63.5 Futura a few years ago. 260 V8 and a 4 speed. It was awesome. Virtually identical to the Sprint but equipped with a bench seat and no tach.

locals put in a hopped up 250 i6, that near doubles frm 2.8 to 4.1L.
    Seen 1 w/6 Keihins (1 per cyl).

This vehicle introduced the world to both muscle cars (the stang is a hopped up production model ) & SUVs (my ’66/77bronk is just a 4 WD falcon). All thru the simple response to the Bug decimating the amer. auto industry.

What did we come up w/when the Japanese did the same ~ 10 yrs later?

My mom( almost immediately sold to my bro!!) had in 65 a sprint hardtop 260/4 sp w/ 2×4 carbs(was a repo my dad surprised mom with- he liked it!!!) it was the 63 1/2 that I loved( got to drive it ONCE…. then big bro traded it in for his 66 GT390(which he still has – under raps with +-35k n i haven’t ever driven!!!)
    Sprints were V8s.
