59K Mile One-Owner 1992 Cadillac Coupe DeVille

Driving 1,900 miles a year isn’t a lot, a lot of people travel that far or more every month. I do about twice that much driving every month on average per year so for this 1992 Cadillac Coupe DeVille to only have 59,000 miles on it after 31 years is incredible. The seller has this two-door beauty posted here on craigslist in the Willoughby, Ohio area and they’re asking $9,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to T.J. for the tip!

I love that Cadillac was still offering a thick padded Landau-style vinyl top in 1992, I think it suits this car well and adds a nice detail touch. The opera lights on that vinyl top make it even better – or worse, depending on how a person feels about vinyl tops. Some of the photos are extremely wide angle so it’s hard to get a grasp on the condition, but this car is in “mint condition” according to the seller and I believe it.

Kids and their spray paint! Just kidding. Cadillac offered its modestly well-heeled customers the sixth-generation DeVille for the 1985 through 1993 model years and they came with both four doors and two doors as shown on this beautiful Coupe DeVille. This is one of the more expensive examples that we’ve seen here on Barn Finds and the ’93 model would be the last two-door offered in the DeVille series.

Leather seats were most likely what most folks were hoping to see here and this interior doesn’t disappoint. It looks as showroom fresh as the exterior does. How this car remained in this outstanding condition after three decades is beyond me. The seller says that it’s never seen rain or snow and has been kept in a heated garage when not in use, so that explains it. I have a 2002 car that has never been driven in the snow and is as rust-free and perfect as this car is, but this one is a full decade older so that makes it even more impressive.

The engine looks as plush and comfortable as… hey, wait a minute. Sadly, the seller didn’t bother to pop the hood and at least 99% of us were hoping to see the condition of what I imagine is a perfect-looking 4.9-liter OHV V8 engine. Bummer. It was rated at 200 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque and yes, it’s a member of the HT-4000 family. Keep up on correct maintenance procedures and you should be ok for another few decades. This car runs and drives like new, according to the seller and it sure looks perfect. Hagerty gives a #2 excellent-condition value of $15,100 so this could be a good deal. Any thoughts on this Coupe DeVille?

Cadillac purists will probably turn up their noses at this because of the FWD platform, and I get it, but it looks like a nice comfy ride to me and the relatively low miles and great condition are appealing. If it was in the Denver, CO area I would be on my way over today to give it a closer look.

I consider My self a Cadillac purist and least one forget the TOP of the Line ELDORADO which was the ultimate front wheel drive car and along with the Oldsmobile Tornado lead the front wheel drive revolution at the General

The 4.5 and 4.9 engines ran a long time, much more than the Northstar that followed.

My mom and dad had a 91 SDV when I was a kid. For a front wheel drive car these were very nice. It was probably three or four years old when they bought it. 94 was a body style change, and they put a lot of plastic in them. Mom thought she needed a minivan, and they ended up with a Chevy Astro. Definitely a big step down!

If I remember correctly….now it’s been a while. These had a front main bearing issue back then. The drive belt tensioner held to much pressure causing premature bearing failure. Worked for Carmax….20 years ago..I would walk the wholesale lot. They had one of these, but a Sedan DeVille…what a spotless perfect car. They paid $1200 for it and employees paid $200 over cost plus applicable fees. They had a 5 day/300mile return policy. I bought the car and drove it for a bit…noticed the ever so slight bearing knock under very light acceleration. It was part of an estate liquidation I believe. I mean it was a cream puff with only 50k miles. Needless to say I returned it. I didn’t had the means at the time to dive into repairing it.

I had the same problem with my 4.5 at around 50,000 miles. And, the air conditioning would quit occasionally, which was a problem in Florida. Engineers finally decided that the three computers would quit communicating. There was no fix apart from installing a switch under the dash to turn it on and off manually.

Did these have the steel plate under the driver’s seat? Asking for a friend.

I never understood why they made a V8 FWD, defeats the fun of a V8. Could you imagine the uproar if Mercedes made there V8’s FWD?
I own an Aussie V8 Fairlane, power going to the correct set of wheels (RWD).

I had a 1990 Fleetwood Sixty Special 2 dr 30 years ago. I can’t seem to dig up any photos, but mine was white with a grey interior very much like this one. The Fleetwood had fender skirts was really the only difference. It was an okay car. Reliable, but then it was new to not very used the whole time, so… What’s not to like?

Me and my late dad owned several of these! They can not be beat! Very reliable! So much power the front wheels will bark!

This is a great example of downsized FWD Cadillac. But for me it is the first of many Cadillac mistakes. A lover of the GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHT, having owned 89 Brougham deElegance and 93 Brougham (which had several issues) I find it very sad to see what now wears the Cadillac name. Glorified trucks! At least this carries traditional Cadillac styling and panache!

My Pa in law had a couple of these back then. They were nice dependable cars until the cheap GM electronics started going bad, then they were junk only dope dealers wanted. I don’t remember him having any engine or transmission problems, but all that electronics junk seemed like it was made to fail.

I owned a 1993 version of this car, the water pump is a bear to get to, the engine has to be lifted to get to it, also the smog system will have gone bad by now, heck my low mile 1993 Cad wouldn’t pass smog in 1999. All else worked fine though.

As I’ve said before, cars like this are what I would buy if I was needing a daily driver. I’m not and this is 500 miles from me. But if I was well can you say Road Trip?

Know that feeling! At this point, I consider myself a vintage Rolls Canardly. Roll down one hill and Canardly get up the next!
