After a successful first generation of the Camaro (1967-69), Chevrolet redesigned its popular “pony car” in 1970. The new Camaro was sleeker in appearance which would serve the car well for 12 more model years before the next rework in 1982. Due to some production delays, copies of the 1970 Camaro didn’t hit showroom floors until February, meaning the 1969 editions were on the assembly line for 15 months. The seller’s basic Camaro has been in the barn since 1978 for reasons not mentioned.
Because of the abbreviated ‘70 model year, just under 125,000 Camaros were built that year. And only 10% of them came with a 250 cubic inch six-cylinder engine like this one. And given that it has a 3-speed manual transmission, the percentage is even smaller. So, production numbers make this Camaro rare compared to a V8 Rally Sport, Super Sport, or Z28.
The last time this Chevrolet was on the road, the odometer read 60,000 miles. Then it went into the barn and was forgotten about for a long, long time. The seller says the only rust you’ll find on the Chevy is of the surface variety, but its surroundings haven’t helped much to preserve it. We’re also told the interior will need to be redone, but no photos are provided. Did some small critters gain access to the car?
Located in Craigsville, Virginia, this Camaro is available here on Facebook Marketplace. The asking price has been lowered from $18,000 to $15,000, but that sounds like a lot for a car that will need a ton of work and doesn’t have something powerful under the hood. Would you restore this Camaro as it was built 54 years ago? Or go for a restomod?
Rarity being a thing, a straight up stock resto would be my aim.
There are enough restomods in the show circuit. A simple 6-banger 3-speed would turn just as many heads as a screamer Z-28 clone would.
A ’69 RS camaro with either 6 cylinder would turn a lot more heads – no one i know has EVER seen one, tho there was one at Carlisle.

Yeah 15 K all day long! It’s a bit heavier than those earlier sweet six cylinder Mustangs, should be a thrill to drive.
I imagine this being ordered by a dealer as a “loss leader.” “1970 Camaro – $2600!” would be featured prominently in their Sunday ad. Monday, when interested customers arrived, they would be shown a forlorn, poverty-spec Camaro on the back corner of the lot. “But, for a few hundred more, we can put you in a V-8 Camaro with power steering and brakes!”
If ever you didn’t want to sell a vehicle –
Ask for a ridiculous price based on what it is
Leave it the barn stacked up with junk and filthy

No information on whether it ran or why it doesn’t.

This person is just throwing a dart at a board and aren’t really serious about selling this “project” GLWS…
As a 2nd gen F-body veteran, I know for the fact that the floor pans on these rust, even if it’s sitting in storage. So I would definitely check that before shelling out this kind of money for a car that’s probably worth about 2.5k.

i can’t speak to the 70 models but the 67 250-6, 3 at the knee was not only super easy to work on, it was pretty cool to drive! the floor pan on my 67 had rust holes in it when i bought it for $400 in 74. didn’t take but one rainy day to make me patch that up real quick! but the 250 is a solid six, and so easy to work on. yeah, no 2nd gear rubber but the mpgs were pretty good at a time that was beginning to matter. i’d be interested in this one if it weren’t for the ridiculous asking price. glwts

Yep, pending at an ask of $15K. I have a bit of skepticism about that. I could be wrong though. Maybe someone likes stripper Camaros besides me. Except for the color; this is the same as the one I bought new. Even though the seller claims it has the original “hubcaps”; I don’t recall seeing anything like these. Mine had poverty caps. The car l drove had more power than you might think and the mileage was good too. Sure was a good car to be driving during the oil embargo. I could do a complete tune up and oil change in less than a half hour. I would take a stab at this one if it was priced at one third of the pending sales price. If this sells; I hope the new owner keeps it stock and doesn’t try to make a SS or RS clone out of it. I don’t remember seeing one like mine when it was new. There can’t be many left today though because they rusted out badly. Mine was Swiss cheese by 1988 when I gave it to the high school shop. Still ran like a champ though.
To me I’d guess the seller not really wants to sell this car….or he is pipe dreaming someone is stupid enough to pay 15k. Why he not get better pics….after he cleans it? The pics show more crap on the car then the actual car! No pics of any good points of this car. Maybe its considered “rare” only if not as many striped down base Camaros made compared to V8 ones. The way it looks here…lack details & good pics…..I’d guess it only worth 1k….maybe 2K.
