707 Horsepower Turn-Key Chassis! Wrecked 2015 Hellcat

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

If you have been looking for a crate engine for your latest project, how about a 707-horsepower Hellcat? What’s even better than a crate engine? A full Hellcat chassis to drop under your project! This wrecked 2015 Dodge Challenger has a wheelbase of 116 inches and would be an awesome platform for a classic truck or car pro-touring project! It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of over $18,000. Being offered for sale by Cleveland Power and Performance in Columbia Station, Ohio, there’s a video of them driving the chassis on their website. Take a closer look at this beast!

Obviously, the steering wheel airbag along with the seat airbags have been deployed. The rest of the interior features an 8.4″ screen, full power, heated and cooled leather seats and paddle shifters!

The 707hp 6.2L Hemi engine is backed by an 8HP90 8-speed auto trans. Unfortunately for the previous owner, it was wrecked with only 26k miles on the odometer. If you aren’t familiar with the Hellcat package, it features a 2.4L twin-screw supercharger running at just over 11lbs of boost, making 707hp @6,200 rpm and 650 ft-lbs@4,000 rpm!

If I was considering using the entire chassis for a project, I’d want to make sure the frame isn’t too bent. Based on the photos, it looks like it was hit from every angle although all four wheels and tires seem to be in good shape, so it may not have been a roll-over. What would be your dream vehicle to have a Hellcat chassis under?

A wrecked Hellcat, by golly, what are the chances of that? You mean I can’t go fishtailing around corners, tires a-blazin’ like on TV? What could possibly be the harm in putting an unexperienced driver in a 700 hp car? This isn’t some video game, punk, read the disclaimers, “Do Not Attempt”, “Professional driver on a closed course”, I love that one. Pretty hilarious, years ago, we barreled down country lanes with drum brakes and bias-ply tires and Powerglides, and made it fine,,okay, some tense times, but we made it. This monkey had the most advanced car ever made, and couldn’t handle it. Tells a story right there.
You know, insurance companies are too quick to pay out. If this person had to scrub prison toilets to pay for the damage they caused, I wonder if they would be more responsible?

soooo what your saying is you really only need a vehicle with what, 30 or 40 hp, just enough to reach the speed limit or maybe come with governors so they will go only whatever the speed limit is in the state your in? The powers to be wanted to limit bikes too….people have been able to buy bikes that go 180 plus for 30 yrs…I haven’t seen the mass carnage they predicted yet….. peoples responsibility is their responsibility ….not for other people to dictate

Remember the old SNL skit with Dan Ackroyd playing the sleezy kids toy salesman? He sold really bad stuff that was supposedly legal. (My favorite was the bag of broken glass.) How can selling something like this be any different? If you need this much HP, become a pro and race on a closed circuit and follow all the safety guidelines. Of course there are so many examples of stuff being sold that shouldn’t be. Sold as lifestyle items, they often work out poorly. Example, say you are a chubby 17 year old loser and want to play Rambo in Kenosha. What do you take with you for giggles? Here’s an idea. If you want to play tough guy, join the Marines and spend some quality time getting your kicks in the near east. Sorry, some of us found out early in life how fragile and precious life is and get troubled by such corporate greed at the publics expense.

The idea of holding manufacturers accountable for producing dangerous items falls apart pretty quickly when you stop and think about how many things in our everyday lives are inherently dangerous. Kitchen knives, power tools, lawn mowers, baseball bats, etc, etc, etc.

Geez Howard…do we even know how it got wrecked? But you are already ripping’ someone a new butthole over an incident you have no knowledge of? I am old too and like to remember the past, but it was not all fun and games by any means. No real need to be a crabby old turd unless we choose to do so. Have a nice day.

It would be cool to get old 1970 challenge that needs a resto. Put that body on that chassis you might have to tinker with the sheet metal to make it a little bit wider. I seen this done on a Pantera on Bitchin Rides. If they can do it to a old style Corvette and put it on a newer chassis it could be done here too. Just my thought on it. 🐻🇺🇸

Let’s face it, the average car sitting in any High School parking lot driven by a 16 year old girl can out launch, out corner, out perform in the way of 0 to 60, qtr mile, and top speed than most of the muscle we drove back in the day. All while getting 25+ to the gallon.
However, the lack of driving ability, the addition of all the attention stealing gadgetry and ridiculous F-16 like portrayals of speed in Fast & Furious trash also makes the drivers of these things twice as dangerous as well.

The elephant in the room is that you are subsidizing folks who buy cars that are over their skill set. Insurance cost should be prohibitive but it’s not because insurance companies want to insure folks with this kind of disposable income because they often (usually) have a set of other, ‘safer’ cars, expensive houses, businesses, etc. that bring in lots of profit. The bulk of the policyholders pay a few dollars more so the rate for a road blaster few will be less.

If there were so many claims against a specific car, then insurance would be out of sight. But for every wrecked one, there are tens of thousands running around without wrecking. And thousands and thousands that are someones pride and joy sitting in a garage. Same story with Mustangs or Corvettes. Horsepower doesn’t make a car crash. And stationary burnouts are probably the safest thing you can do with that horsepower. Jeesh. This should be called grumpycodgerfinds.com.

Nevadahalftrak that article is a horrible tragedy but are you saying this car which is in Ohio is the same car? Doubtful and to blame that on the car is just wrong
That could have happened with a speeding driver in a big 4×4

    • Nevadahalfrack NevadahalfrackMember

No sir. The latest crash was with a speeding Challenger, yes, but the one almost as recently was with a Cadillac and killed numerous people as well-in addition to the crash that killed a young boy and left his sister horribly mangled as they walked across a crosswalk there and were kit by a driver “distracted by his GPS” he said. As well Las Vegas Metro recently investigated a crash involving someone on a moped going too fast and hit the curb killing himself and his passenger.
Bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what they’re driving. And with the current attitude towards cops it’s not going to get any better. Inasmuch as I disagree with much of what Gary has written the Canadian (and British Commonwealth) idea of tiered licensing makes a lot of sense.

      • RMac

Nevada THAT I can agree with here in SC you get your license at 15 WAY too young should be 17 minimum and then should be a tiered license but never will happen. Unfortunately employers want kids to be able to drive to jobs and many places mass transit is just not available

Tim over at Cleveland Power was kind enough to send me photos of the car prior to their weight saving use of a power saw. My initial observations, based on my experience as a forensic mechanic and accident reconstruction work, is that this vehicle collided with a fairly low, but solid, object in the area of the left front wheel. [Perhaps the end of a guard rail.] This probably spun the car around in a circle, resulting in the additional damages we see today. There is some minor buckling of the sail panel on the right rear, so it’s likely there is some minor frame damage, also evident in the left trunk floor area. The actual roof shows no damages. Based on examination from all the photos, I suspect the frame damages are repairable, if the shop has a state-of-the-art frame alignment system. In the photos the upper control arm and entire outer suspension and spindle, along with the tire/wheel is missing, so some work has already been done to make it run and drive. It will be interesting to see what the new owner does with this vehicle.
