If you have been looking for a crate engine for your latest project, how about a 707-horsepower Hellcat? What’s even better than a crate engine? A full Hellcat chassis to drop under your project! This wrecked 2015 Dodge Challenger has a wheelbase of 116 inches and would be an awesome platform for a classic truck or car pro-touring project! It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of over $18,000. Being offered for sale by Cleveland Power and Performance in Columbia Station, Ohio, there’s a video of them driving the chassis on their website. Take a closer look at this beast!
Obviously, the steering wheel airbag along with the seat airbags have been deployed. The rest of the interior features an 8.4″ screen, full power, heated and cooled leather seats and paddle shifters!
The 707hp 6.2L Hemi engine is backed by an 8HP90 8-speed auto trans. Unfortunately for the previous owner, it was wrecked with only 26k miles on the odometer. If you aren’t familiar with the Hellcat package, it features a 2.4L twin-screw supercharger running at just over 11lbs of boost, making 707hp @6,200 rpm and 650 ft-lbs@4,000 rpm!
If I was considering using the entire chassis for a project, I’d want to make sure the frame isn’t too bent. Based on the photos, it looks like it was hit from every angle although all four wheels and tires seem to be in good shape, so it may not have been a roll-over. What would be your dream vehicle to have a Hellcat chassis under?
Now if this would just fit under a Chevette or a PT Cruiser body . .
Somebody wrecked a 707HP car?
Was this YOUR handwork, Rex Khars?!?!😆
Or a Pontiac Aztek.
Mebbee one of them “garage find” abandoned project fiberglass kit car bodies we keep seein’ turn up here..now there’s a Frankencar you’d fear and respect!
A wrecked Hellcat, by golly, what are the chances of that? You mean I can’t go fishtailing around corners, tires a-blazin’ like on TV? What could possibly be the harm in putting an unexperienced driver in a 700 hp car? This isn’t some video game, punk, read the disclaimers, “Do Not Attempt”, “Professional driver on a closed course”, I love that one. Pretty hilarious, years ago, we barreled down country lanes with drum brakes and bias-ply tires and Powerglides, and made it fine,,okay, some tense times, but we made it. This monkey had the most advanced car ever made, and couldn’t handle it. Tells a story right there.
You know, insurance companies are too quick to pay out. If this person had to scrub prison toilets to pay for the damage they caused, I wonder if they would be more responsible?
soooo what your saying is you really only need a vehicle with what, 30 or 40 hp, just enough to reach the speed limit or maybe come with governors so they will go only whatever the speed limit is in the state your in? The powers to be wanted to limit bikes too….people have been able to buy bikes that go 180 plus for 30 yrs…I haven’t seen the mass carnage they predicted yet….. peoples responsibility is their responsibility ….not for other people to dictate
Old drag racer rule,” Never too much power, just tires too small”? Wonder if this wheelbase would fit under my 33 Chevy? (107″) haha.
“Monkey” interesting choice of words to describe a person Howard
Remember the old SNL skit with Dan Ackroyd playing the sleezy kids toy salesman? He sold really bad stuff that was supposedly legal. (My favorite was the bag of broken glass.) How can selling something like this be any different? If you need this much HP, become a pro and race on a closed circuit and follow all the safety guidelines. Of course there are so many examples of stuff being sold that shouldn’t be. Sold as lifestyle items, they often work out poorly. Example, say you are a chubby 17 year old loser and want to play Rambo in Kenosha. What do you take with you for giggles? Here’s an idea. If you want to play tough guy, join the Marines and spend some quality time getting your kicks in the near east. Sorry, some of us found out early in life how fragile and precious life is and get troubled by such corporate greed at the publics expense.
The idea of holding manufacturers accountable for producing dangerous items falls apart pretty quickly when you stop and think about how many things in our everyday lives are inherently dangerous. Kitchen knives, power tools, lawn mowers, baseball bats, etc, etc, etc.
Geez Howard…do we even know how it got wrecked? But you are already ripping’ someone a new butthole over an incident you have no knowledge of? I am old too and like to remember the past, but it was not all fun and games by any means. No real need to be a crabby old turd unless we choose to do so. Have a nice day.
@CCFisher, Sir, your idea itself falls apart pretty quickly when you factor in common sense.
@Gary – I’m not the one who has abandoned common sense. If you’ve come here to complain about cars having too much performance, you’re definitely in the wrong place. I’ll leave you to your Mitsubishi Mirage and your copy of Consumer Reports.
Let Darwin sort out the weak I say.
Wouldn’t common sense make a 700 H.P. car safe?
What Sackinsbury said!
Wow! Gary this is a car forum, not NPR. Take your opinions to the Kenosha news and then read the responses. The verdict is in and you need to remember if you don’t like the outcome you can always burn down a business or two.
Better stick to minivans Howard and let the big boys play with the real toys.
Git ’em HoA! lol………..
Back in the early 60’s chrysler had to stop selling, what were basically “ramcharger” race cars to anybody off the street. Insurance Companys started noticing 18yr olds buying these cars on a monday an wrecked on tues… Yah dont start out an experienced driver….
The perfect high school graduation gift –
or a loaded handgun.
I will take both as graduation gifts.
Unfortunately, for some reason, both are legal.
Called the 2nd amendment. Move to Canada if you don’t like it. Btw a 18 can buy that car with no issues. Need to be 21 and have a background check for a handgun.
yep life in a civilized country with health care and a real democracy …great place to be
Dude, your high horse is exhausted. How about giving it a rest?
do you text and drive?, no response needed, I already know the answer
Obviously not. I am not a 17 year old girl. And Ace10, you know what is great about reading? You don’t have too. Don’t worry, as old as I am I will be gone soon and the world will once again be safe from horrible things like the free expression of ideas. More time to give your six year old his own 9mm, and encourage him upon hitting 16 to get all his frustrations out on the road using a car with HP ten times his IQ rating.
You’ve stated your opinion. And then restated it. And then went for it yet again.
So yeah, IT IS possible to skip over a really dumb comment here and there, but not when it’s being spammed.
Why everyone looks at Gary when the club president asks why we can’t get new members.
Was it the Kenosha comment that sent you over the edge? I bet before that you loved me, a lot. One of the few good things about being this close to the grave is that you say what you want to say.
https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/north-las-vegas/9-dead-in-north-las-vegas-crash-involving-speeding-2521066/
Read the ENTIRE article and decide.
I imagine the drivers seat probably needs a deep clean too.
68-70 Charger that has a 318 would be a perfect car for this
‘Monkey’ was once commonly used to describe an ornery person, especially kids. For example, ‘you little monkeys need to go outside and blow the stink off’. Howard Cosell’s infamous usage of the term to describe Washington receiver Art Monk pretty much killed any further usage of that term.
“Monkey” was also commonly used as a verb as in “Hey, don’t monkey around with that 700 HP car or you might just kill somebody” . .
I have to say I didn’t expect this page to have so many pearl clutchers bringing judgement to the party.
Mic drop!
It would be cool to get old 1970 challenge that needs a resto. Put that body on that chassis you might have to tinker with the sheet metal to make it a little bit wider. I seen this done on a Pantera on Bitchin Rides. If they can do it to a old style Corvette and put it on a newer chassis it could be done here too. Just my thought on it. 🐻🇺🇸
Didn’t some comic try that already?
Wow maybe somebody rear ende this car on an interstate and it got in the middle of a chain reaction multi car crash happened to me at 80 mph on I 40 outside Knoxville we do not know it was an inexperienced driver or caused by too much hp boy talk about jumping to conclusions and the beating a dead horse
Wonder if you did a carfax on the vin you could find out where it was hit. Lots of guys using platforms like this to rebody.Without passing judgement this would be good for a rebody. The only other thing I will say is that Mopar had the guts to come out with these screamers in this time where ambulance chasers are everywhere. Good luck and happy motoring.
Cheers
GPC
Heey! how bout them Cowboys!
lol…………….THEY SUCK!
The motor and transmission belong in that J-body Imperial.
Barnfinds is best served politics free folks. Live and let live. Go elsewhere for your endless political forums. We like cars, stories, and good information here.
Let’s face it, the average car sitting in any High School parking lot driven by a 16 year old girl can out launch, out corner, out perform in the way of 0 to 60, qtr mile, and top speed than most of the muscle we drove back in the day. All while getting 25+ to the gallon.
However, the lack of driving ability, the addition of all the attention stealing gadgetry and ridiculous F-16 like portrayals of speed in Fast & Furious trash also makes the drivers of these things twice as dangerous as well.
What was the question again?
Put a pinto body on it
With a Haz Mat placard?
I was thinking four-door Valiant in hearing-aid beige.
The elephant in the room is that you are subsidizing folks who buy cars that are over their skill set. Insurance cost should be prohibitive but it’s not because insurance companies want to insure folks with this kind of disposable income because they often (usually) have a set of other, ‘safer’ cars, expensive houses, businesses, etc. that bring in lots of profit. The bulk of the policyholders pay a few dollars more so the rate for a road blaster few will be less.
You could say this one was “Hellcat bent for leather.” Would have loved to
have owned it before the accident.
If there were so many claims against a specific car, then insurance would be out of sight. But for every wrecked one, there are tens of thousands running around without wrecking. And thousands and thousands that are someones pride and joy sitting in a garage. Same story with Mustangs or Corvettes. Horsepower doesn’t make a car crash. And stationary burnouts are probably the safest thing you can do with that horsepower. Jeesh. This should be called grumpycodgerfinds.com.
Agreed, Jay E.
And the price of admission would be a truckle of cheese to go with all the whine!
This car has been listed before.
Not sure where but possibly here.
An expensive engine replacement though.
Will it drive home?
I nean it’s not like driving a burnt Lebanon with John Candy and Steve Martin to be home for holidays 😂😎
A great Gen 1 Viper transplant, then for the 1st time a Viper would sound good.
A guy where I live rebodied a 69 roadrunner body on to one of these and it fit perfectly, dash and all.
Was that the car featured in Hemmings Muscle Machines a few months ago? That was an interesting article to read although the shop that built it did say that it took quite a bit of work to fit everything together.
It might have been all I know is he did a beautiful job.
Do this when you don’t want your Hellcat to attract attention from the police.
I’ve heard of ‘strippers’, but this is going too far.
Some interesting points of view expressed here. Let me throw this out there for discussion: What is going to happen in the future when these young drivers start getting their hands on EVs with tremendous torque and incredible 0-60 times? Are high powered EVs more controllable than say a 707hp Hellcat?
Didn’t we learn in class yesterday that an old RWD Volvo wagon should be placed on top of this chassis so that one can “chew anybody’s ass” in traffic?
Bueler? Bueler?
$20,200 now, reserve not met. I clicked on see sellers other items, over 7,000 items came up!!
This would make a great roadster project for a Custom Body shop!
I’d love to put it under a Divco.
Instead of BarnFinds.com, it should be called GrumpyOldMen.com
You guys are very entertaining. 😆😆😆
Looks like a certain Hoosier You tuber had a hold of it.
Aren’t these unibody constructed? How do you sell the frame of a unibody car? Call it what it is, a Hellcat with the damaged pieces cut off.
This car may have been stolen. Brings another old adage to ‘Drive it like you stole it”!
I suppose the Sirius subscription expired.
SOLD – someone hit the Buy It Now button – $31,995.
That doesn’t make a lot of sense when the highest bid was only $24,001.
We’ll probably see it relisted soon enough.
Not to sound negative PRA, but people are stupid.
No disagreement here!
I would like to see it in a ’68 or ’69 Charger.
Pacer or gremlin either way be the most fun ever had streetlight racing leaving every fast car owner with their jaw dropped wondering what just happened
Looked better in the crate.
as a retired body mechanic you would be foolish to by this or anything like it until you put it on a frame rack-jig
If it runs and drives, just put dune buggy headlights and a roll cage in it and drive it as is
Nevadahalftrak that article is a horrible tragedy but are you saying this car which is in Ohio is the same car? Doubtful and to blame that on the car is just wrong
That could have happened with a speeding driver in a big 4×4
No sir. The latest crash was with a speeding Challenger, yes, but the one almost as recently was with a Cadillac and killed numerous people as well-in addition to the crash that killed a young boy and left his sister horribly mangled as they walked across a crosswalk there and were kit by a driver “distracted by his GPS” he said. As well Las Vegas Metro recently investigated a crash involving someone on a moped going too fast and hit the curb killing himself and his passenger.
Bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what they’re driving. And with the current attitude towards cops it’s not going to get any better. Inasmuch as I disagree with much of what Gary has written the Canadian (and British Commonwealth) idea of tiered licensing makes a lot of sense.
Nevada THAT I can agree with here in SC you get your license at 15 WAY too young should be 17 minimum and then should be a tiered license but never will happen. Unfortunately employers want kids to be able to drive to jobs and many places mass transit is just not available
I would think just buying a 2015 base model challenger and swapping it all over would be the simplest way of getting a sleeper Hellcat. But not for 30K.
Tim over at Cleveland Power was kind enough to send me photos of the car prior to their weight saving use of a power saw. My initial observations, based on my experience as a forensic mechanic and accident reconstruction work, is that this vehicle collided with a fairly low, but solid, object in the area of the left front wheel. [Perhaps the end of a guard rail.] This probably spun the car around in a circle, resulting in the additional damages we see today. There is some minor buckling of the sail panel on the right rear, so it’s likely there is some minor frame damage, also evident in the left trunk floor area. The actual roof shows no damages. Based on examination from all the photos, I suspect the frame damages are repairable, if the shop has a state-of-the-art frame alignment system. In the photos the upper control arm and entire outer suspension and spindle, along with the tire/wheel is missing, so some work has already been done to make it run and drive. It will be interesting to see what the new owner does with this vehicle.
Scientific/logical approach V. emotional reaction: Science 1, emotions 0.
You continue to intelligently quell quarrels of this kind.
Thank you, Bill McCoskey.
