Metallic Cherry: 72k Mile 1975 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The shape of a Chevrolet Corvette C3 body is highly receptive to a custom paint job, whether it’s something outrageous or simply changing the color to a modified shade.  This cool ‘Vette was originally white, but the previous owner applied a different finish outside, which the seller says creates attention every time this one’s on the road.  A move in the near future will result in the owner losing his garage, and he can’t stand the idea of leaving it outside, so he’s trying to find the car a new home.  This 1975 Chevrolet Corvette is located in Tioga, Pennsylvania, and can be viewed here on Craigslist, where the seller believes his $20,000 price tag is fair for what you’re getting.  Mitchell G., thanks for your excellent tip here!

It’s reported that the last owner is responsible for the upgraded finish outside, and while there are no before photos or any information whether any bodywork has been performed, the outside appearance is eye-catching and said to remain in overall nice condition.  The cherry red metallic paint job is stated to consist of a three-stage process, and while it’s not quite perfect, the car is described as driver-quality, but a particularly nice driver.  A few cosmetic imperfections are pointed out, such as some minor chips and one spider-web area about the size of a quarter.  The good news is that nothing appears to be enough of an issue to address at this time, so it’s probably better to be thankful this one is as good as it is and just enjoy driving it, at least for the time being.

1974 was the end of 454 availability for the C3, with no big block power available for the ’75 model.  Engine choices were now down to two, both of the 350 variety, and came in your choice of the entry-level L48 or the optional L82.  This one’s a base L48, which by now had dropped to 165 horsepower.  The catalytic converter has been removed, and there’s now a true dual exhaust system underneath, with a fresh pair of Thrush mufflers installed.  This one’s also equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, so while this one doesn’t offer the same sort of performance capabilities as some of the earlier cars, it’s probably still rewarding to get behind the wheel of.

The seller mentions that the interior is original and gives it a condition rating of 7 on a 10 scale.  One notable upgrade inside is a Bluetooth Stereo, and there’s also a luggage rack out back, so there’ll be some extra storage room available behind the seats should the buyer decide to fly in and drive this one home.  I’m appreciating this 1975 Chevrolet Corvette the way it is overall, and not feeling a strong urge to make many changes or improvements at this time.  What are your thoughts here?

All I’d do is start it and drive it. Paint really sets this one apart from the rest of them. Nice!

Color is really nice, makes it stand out, inside is beautiful. Love the o.e.m. old style wiper blades. Visibly the emissions hardware has been trashed. 20 is fair for how good it looks, should find a new home fairly quick

The prices on early to mid century vettes, with low miles, and a 350, are all over the place, sadly. I just got done on a 76, with 50k miles, new paint, new interior, new AC, and I’m afraid I might have to throw it into a garage for 20 years to get my money back…

Not a Corvette expert, but it looks like the “Corvette” emblem on the rear bumper is from 1976??

The 75 is the least sought after year of the C3 and I really doubt, that anyone will pay 20K for it. The paint color is nice (but I would prefer an original paint every time) and the seller tried to make it as attractive as possible (replaced the ugly original steering wheel, trashed emission stuff etc..).. but at the end its too much money for a 75, that is not even perfect. For me, this is a 12K vehicle.

The car seems to be accurately priced. It shows as a clean well kept example of a ‘75. Steffens, one doesn’t find any vehicles this nice looking in the 12 K range.

Love the car and the paint job. This is a great cruiser. I would only change the carb to a Holley Sniper EFI system for consistent drivability and maybe a little more power. I love this car but two pending weddings for my kids this year will sideline me for bidding.

Nice clean car, 350, 4 speed, A/C, tilt wheel, great paint, and a blue-tooth stereo that looks original. I’m surprised it doesn’t have power windows, but that’s not a deal breaker. $20k may be a little optimistic, but it appears that the seller has done a fair amount of mechanical work. The important parts that weren’t mentioned were rear end yokes and trailing arm bushings. Maybe you really can fly into Elmira and have a great rise home.

Too bad it doesn’t have catalytic converters – it wouldn’t pass Pennsylvania state inspection without any. Original equipment or a replacement has to be in place; in many counties it/them wouldn’t even have to be functional, just pass a visual inspection. In our heavily populated counties, a tailpipe “sniff” test is required.

Catalytic converter is a must for California SMOG requirements & testing. Tack a few thousand$$$ on to get it to pass visual & tailpipe sniff.

Actually no about the cat in California. 1975 is the cut off year, 1975 and older can pretty much run what you want for exhaust.

I live in Berks county PA. Visual emissions only on OBD1 and older cars and trucks here. I have never had a shop even look for a missing cat or other emissions parts on older vehicles. They don’t even look for a check engine light if they don’t need to plug into the state computer system, only required on the OBD2 and newer stuff

Indiana has 4 counties that require emissions tests on anything newer than ’75 so this would sneak in alright.
