Ran When Parked: 1967 Dodge Dart GT Project

The GT was introduced in 1963 as the sporty version of the Dodge Dart compact. It was not a performance machine until the GTS arrived in 1967. While a small-block V8 was available, a lot of the ’67 Dart GTs came with a Slant-Six engine, which is the case with this rough yard find. It “ran when parked,” but that was probably ages ago. The drop-top project can be found in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, and is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $2,500 OBO.

Chrysler redesigned its compact cars in 1967, so the Dodge Dart and Plymouth Valiant were all-new. And the rework was popular enough to keep both cars going for nearly another decade. The GT was still on the roster for the Dart and 38,200 of them found buyers in ’67 (excluding the hot GTS). And perhaps just 2,100 or so were convertibles with the venerable 6-banger, so the seller’s car was in rare territory even when it was new.

This Mopar looks to have lived a hard life in New England, with the body being rough. But the bucket seat interior has fared much worse because of the flawed top, and you’ll have to strip down and start over. The last time the car ran, the odometer reflected 81,000 miles. Why it was parked isn’t mentioned, but surely a mechanical issue sidelined it.

The seller thinks the car will start with a new battery and some gas in the carburetor. A new gas tank will likely be needed to go further than that. This ragtop has a floor-shifted automatic transmission, and this was probably quite the looker back in its heyday. While this vehicle is rare, rarity doesn’t mean financially viable. If it had a factory V8, the decision would be a little easier. Thanks to Zappenduster for dusting this tip off for us!
